I gotta disagree with this man. Last year around this time there seemed to be a TON of apathy for Gus, that had been building for a few years.

But I think what he offers is better than the unknown, knowing that he is capable of competing for the SEC and the NC when he doesn't get in the way.

I can't disagree with this sentiment. Our current situation is a perfect example of the grass not always being greener

Many adjustments by LSU in the second half...not many, if at all by AU. Gus went Tubershell in the second half and it cost him. Wasn't expecting a special teams TD by LSU. It was one of the more frustrating games as a fan in a long time. Could've finally got the 1999 monkey off our backs instead we craped the bed...all over the sheets, down the side, smeared in the pillows...epic bed crapping.

I think most people approached last year like we are this year. I wanted his arse gone after the LSU game last year and wasn't shy about saying so. Beating the two teams like he did at the end of the year went a long way, not necessarily (for me at least) because of who they were, but that he was capable of winning a big game again.

Is he worth $49 million? No. But it was what it took from letting him go to an SEC West rival and getting stuck with an unknown up and comer or a retread like some schools have gotten. I know Gus can win the SEC and I know he can also decide to rotate 4 QBs and lose a game he has no business losing. But I think at his worst I think he's a 5 loss coach and his best is playing for the NC.

Good luck

I was probably mad about something else. But it's true. I hope that isn't the norm but I can't imagine a Gus Auburn team failing to make a bowl game, or god forbid, have a season like Chizik did in 2012.

He's also recruited well, made coaching changes when he's needed to and had relatively little in the way of discipline problems or scandals. I think Jay Jacob's retirement has also given him some more freedom.

It was a total fluke honestly but AU gave it away and LSU gets credit for continuing to fight. Punt return should have been called back. We dropped the easiest INT of all time and then immediately gave up a TD after it. Carlton Davis gambled on an INT for no reason and gave up a 50 yard pass play at the end of the first half that led to a TD. Our coaches started throwing bombs every pass play for no reason at all.

It was the worst most inexplicable loss in my nearly 25 years of following Auburn football.

My fondest memory of that game is no BowlJackson for a good long while.

Thanks LSU.

I was in the stadium, drunk off bourbon and a stomach full of boudin balls.

Auburn gus'd that game for certain.

The LSU fans had given up and over half of them had already left the stadium.
The Auburn fans were moving to the shaded seats in the stadium because it was so freakin hot that day.

In the record book, LSU won the game and you can't take it away from them or lessen the victory.

But gus sucked that day and I won't soon forget it.

Definitely hard to see Gus going 0-8 in SEC play.

He did go 2-6 in 2015 though.

Hard to see him repeating that though.

Gus seems to have a good thing going.

Just gotta keep the NCAA one step behind and his wife away from all social media and TV cameras.

D.J. Chark had a monster day but that game turned on Sullivan's 4th and goal TD when the Tigers were down 20-0. Auburn looked like they sniffed the play out but Sullivan broke the tackle and scored. If he gets stopped, that game likely becomes a bloodbath.

Was watching the highlights of this game and can't decide if LSU won it, or did Auburn lose it?

I mean LSU did have more Passing yards and more Total yards than Auburn did in the game. During the game I thought Auburn folded and gave the game away. But after re watching it, I think Coach O was just better than Gus that night. What say you?

Both.

1. LSU never gave up to their great credit.

2. Gus put the game in his pocket and went turtle.

One team's coach wanted to win and the other thought the game was already won and went Full Tubershell *in the first fricking half*, with predictable results.

Edit: Auburn keeps playing until, say, maybe mid-4th quarter and the game isn't even close and Coach O may not have even been allowed to finish the season.

Alabama had tuba players playing linebacker against AU. So?

The punt return for TD was a huge momentum swinger. Things were so stagnant after halftime (thought we had momentum going i) going into the 4th quarter, then BOOM Chark returns a punt 75 yards at the start of the 4th to spark the rest of the comeback and make it 23-21 game at that point.

The defense in the 2nd half was just amazing, Auburn never crossed over the 50 yard into our side that entire half.

Gus is the new Les. Choked at the end of the season, flirted with Arkansas to get a raise anyway. Auburn is about to decline hard, Gus has zero reason to give a frick anymore.

The narrative on Gus is highly exaggerated. I would hardly call beating 2 #1 ranked teams in the month of November choking. And I am glad Auburn paid to keep Gus around. Saban has just about run every other coach out of the SEC. Urban Meyer left to move his dynasty to the B1G where he gets little opposition every year. Gus goes up head to head against Saban every year, and has come out on top 2 out of his 5 seasons. I think every team in the SEC is currently looking for a coach that can have that kind of success against the best team in college football, and I don't think they are that easy to find.

Yes he has frustrating losses, and there are inconsistencies in his teams, but he plays in the toughest division in college football, and Auburn consistently plays one of the toughest schedules in the country every year. That should be taken into consideration when comparing Gus to other coaches in the Country.
