10:30am 8/4 we get started
I’m going to try and get out to a few of the open practices. Really want to check out the defense and see if the LBs will be able to step up.

Pay attention to Josh Clarke and report back.

Going to try and do the same and see some open practices.

You could build a house on his individual abdominal muscles

Can not wait for him to truck some DBs this year. Red zone offense will be a nightmare to defend if we have DK on one side and AJ on the other

3 days in and no updates to this thread. We gonna suck again?

No updates is better than "Two of our linebackers are out for the season with freak ACL injuries from running the bleachers."

I haven’t been able to go yet and see anything in person. besides the typical “coach speak” nothing really of note has come up. I guess that’s better than injuries

I thought to myself god our DE's are skinny this year.

Today’s report seemed to be pretty straight forward. They are holding out AJ brown from running drills because of a tweaked hamstring. He apparently did some other stuff while the rest of the receivers ran drills. Probably smart to keep him away from anything with contact anyway.

News that I've gathered so far (note that some of this news is a few days old now so it may or may not be known on this board):
1. AJ's injury is nothing to worry about. Very minor hamstring injury and won't affect him in the season. Other injuries include Javien Hamilton (minor hamstring injury), Jason Pellerin (dislocated finger, out for a week), Matt Corral (minor cramping, forced out of practice).
2. Myles Hartsfield, a starter from last year, hasn't been running 1's at the CB. He's been running 1's at the Star position, the LB/S hybrid that will blitz/play run pro while also dropping back into coverage.
3. The running back battle has been interesting. Scottie Phillips seems to be the leader with Eric Swinney in 2nd, and Isiah Woullard, Armani Linton, and freshman Tylan Knight splitting the 3/4/5 reps. Watch out for Tylan Knight, he's received some high praise.
4. Matt Corral has improved from last spring and has played well this fall. Will probably by Ta'amu's backup. The running back corps as a whole has received a lot of praise from the defense.
5. Ben Brown, a redshirt freshman OL, has been taking first team reps at guard. He's had a good camp and has given the OL some depth at guard. Jordan Sims, starting guard one year ago, has now been taking 2's at Center.
6. Freshman Kevontae' Ruggs, whose brother plays at Alabama, has been a standout at linebacker and has been "...the best of any linebacker" according to Coach Matt Luke. Zikerion Baker is another freshman LB standout who has taken some reps with the 1's, and is "not afraid to hit you."
7. The defensive line has depth. Junior DE Qaadir Sheppard was the best pass rusher in yesterday's scrimmage, Junior DT Austrian Robinson has been the inside man on our 3 down package, and Josiah Coatney has seen some good reps, and Benito Jones has been good.
8. Freshman WR Elijah Moore was "the talk...of the fans" after yesterday's scrimmage, as he made several plays in space.
9. Freshman DB Keidron Smith has also been a standout freshman, getting some quality reps with the 1's and 2's.
10. No real big talk about the WRs. I think it's a good thing, as this hopefully means that our coaching staff is focusing on developing our problem areas.
That's all I've got so far.

As per The Daily Journal:
Baker had been part of a group of “young linebackers” that also included sophomore Mohamed Sanogo and redshirt freshmen Josh Clarke. That core group received the most reps of newcomers in the spring, and Clarke emerged as the starter at outside linebacker on the preseason depth chart ahead of junior Willie Hibbler.
Clarke and Sanogo have continued to get their reps in camp, Sanogo at times running first team at outside linebacker and second at middle linebacker in the same practice.
