I really don't think it has anything to do with getting students to stay.

That's exactly what it is for and was part of the "we're going to be trying new things to encourage students to come to the games and stay" that has been mentioned by MT.

I like that they're trying to bring people in but this may not work the way they want it to.
As for the fanbase conversation I get it. It is very frustrating to see the student section empty after half time. It seems even worse now since they moved them to the other endzone. Some shade is definitely needed.

I never had shade in the east stands. Most stadiums don't have a lot of shade. win if you want night games.

We did not have shade the entire time I was there. They also have a problem showing up for big games at night when it is not hot. That is just an excuse.

as a student that was there 2014-18 I can tell you straight up that the endzone change caused 75% of these issues. Now mix that with us sucking since 2016 and thats where the other 25% of it.

We changed endzones from Northeast corner to South in 2001ish. Students still showed up. It's only the current students that suck at attendance. So what about the location. The rest of us were just glad to have a ticket to the game. Check out UGA's student section. They cram them 3 to a seat and still don't have a guaranteed seat. It's hot and uncomfortable but they pack it out. I get the complaints but I don't get the lack of attendance. It's a fun period of life and is very short. These kids spend it bitching and drinking in the Grove. The rest of the classes at Ole Miss got there early, some had to drive to Jackson for a majority of games and stood in a hot and shitty stadium that was near a crime infested area of the city.

I know we did so we could get in the front few rows of the old student section. I can't remember leaving at halftime from any games when I was a student. Leaving early wasn't a thing when I was there, and we weren't really that good then, either. When people left at halftime, it usually meant they were too wasted to stay the rest of the game.

Yes-winning cures all-but this is a different generation of students. They have much less interest in college football and far more interest in themselves and their iPhones-which is an extension of themselves.

And get off my lawn.

Students shouldn't have priority seating. Sorry but young people can handle the sun and heat better than older fans.

I can attest to a lot of that. I was a student at Ole Miss from 2011-2014 and my brother (who was also a student) showed me the best place to sit was the outside edges of the student section. The closer in the middle you were the more annoying the students were. That middle section was empty after halftime unless we were playing a really good and close game.

And then think about this, what happens if the students do get moved out of the north endzone and still don't show up? Now you've pissed off fans that pay a lot more for their tickets by moving them for no reason.

And back when the north endzone was the visiting team section it was still always packed and they got the same amount of sun as the kids do now.

Exactly. But the "poor students" think they are somehow entitled to shade regardless of if they show up or not. Students don't want to hear this but when it comes to seating, they are the lowest priority. The away fans are cared about more because they are paying more money to be at that game and they pump money into the local economy when they visit.

"But we are hot and we don't want to sweat in our dresses/blue blazers"

Well grow the frick up and wear game appropriate attire instead of looking like a tool

HJJ, those dresses aren't hot I don't think (you might know), and only fraternity pledges are wearing blue blazers. Anyway... it is hot as a sumbitch in that student section but as somebody said earlier, the real fix is to win so we don't have to play day games so much.

So what is the excuse for night games, October games, and November games when it is not hot? I haven't seen that student section packed out in years. It's really pathetic and as I said before, I get the complaints but I don't get the lack of attendance. I can bitch about something and still watch the game. You're only able to attend games as a student for an average of 4 years of your life and good times and memories are made.

It's not like that endzone suddenly got moved to Mississippi in 2016. From as far back as I remember, we've always had metal bleachers in that endzone but nobody really complained before.

Haven’t won lately and too many day games. By November we have been “done” lately. I’ll give you October. Attendance is down for many schools. It sucks.

People dont care. Thats the easy simple answer. So many students simply dont care about the game itself. They care about the atmosphere and event. But they could give two shits honestly if we lose or not.

Dont hurt your head trying to overthink it. 18-22 year olds that are out on their own for the first time with the ability to get shitty and chase tail in the Grove are choosing to do that over sitting in a hot as balls stadium watching shitty product on the field.

Winning fixes that issue. Thats the lone thing that fixes that issue. Because then it becomes the cool thing to be a part of.

I haven’t posted here in awhile... but I’ve been perusing some ole miss boards and about half the threads are on stadium atmosphere.

It’s pretty easy, be good. Alabama has these same issues, they just have 4x more students and if you don’t go to the game you lose your tickets.

Also we need to sell white claws like Carolina.

Yep. Don't fire the best head coach we've had since Vaught because he made a bad personal decision.

Back to the topic of the thread... I think the party deck concept could be quite good. I see absolutely nothing wrong with at least giving it a shot. I really believe it’s going to add to the overall atmosphere of the entire stadium. Not going to drastically change anything (gonna accommodate around 800).

Put the band in the southwest corner over the players entrance and the student section on the southeast corner.

Put all the visiting fans and their bands down in the north endzone. Let's be real, that 90 degree heat in September will at least make the bama fans suffer through their win. Right?

Why should visiting fans get any shade on Saturday morning games?

If they want a better seat let them buy a season ticket holder's seats so the the Ole Miss alum can purchase next season's seasons tickets.

I don't mind sitting next to opposing fans. Makes for an interesting 3 hours. It's like wearing a Trump MAGA hat to an ANTIFA rally, whomever has more composure usually comes out on top.

Back in the day, I did get my keys out for the Bama fans to let them know they could head home. The was probably the loss that made Bama realize they needed coaching to go along with cheating.
