It’s good to an extent, but the regulation of it is terrible. These players should be locked in to contracts and shouldn’t just be able to leave on a whim if they have a bad practice. I think that part of this whole thing is absolutely awful. It also allowed for the creation of sleazy unqualified NIL agents who are contacting players that are very uneducated about the whole process. They’re filling the players and families heads with lies and saying they’re looking out for them when in reality they just see these kids as dollar signs. So in reality, both sides are sort of getting screwed over. Of course, it works out great for the high-end stars of the sport, but the average player is most likely going to get screwed thinking the grass is greener and destroy his chance at getting developed by jumping around in hopes of a bigger payday by these clowns. This part really needs to be fixed. I helped ole miss football recruiting in an unofficial role as a student up until graduation and it’s absolutely insane the stories I heard from some of these guys transferring in. It’s unsustainable and unfortunately I don’t think it’ll get fixed until something drastic happens to a kid that leaves him and his family decimated

There is a certain SEC program that has around 12 or so NIL agents circling the program in an unofficial role (so the university is limited on liability) that are absolute snakes and get these kids to sign contracts that they have no earthly idea what’s actually on the paper. We just had to get it sorted out with one of our transfers. Thankfully we were able to get it sorted out and the kid didn’t end up getting screwed, but other kids transferring in and out of there won’t have the same luck. It’s just really unfortunate and the lack of regulation is going to f these kids over. It is mind boggling that this is allowed to go on to me. CFB is operating like a third world government right now

It’s the old man in me speaking but the IRS is probably missing out on some $ from these kids. You’re talking about a gov’t agency that NEVER forgets or forgives. They’ll give it some time for interest and penalties to pile up but the day is coming when they start doing some serious audits of these kids’ bank accounts and revenue streams. I would think some of these players are informed enough to get the verbiage in their deals to protect themselves and the smart ones pay a quarterly estimated tax on their earnings but if they do not they’ll be in for a world of hurt. I don’t judge or fault the kids. Strike while the iron is hot and get your money. But my lord if someone gave me 10s of thousands of dollars monthly/quarterly while I was in college in Oxford I would’ve been dead by 22.

I just wonder when if there’s ever going to be an end to the death of college athletics. I’m all for athletes utilizing their brand but there has to be a tipping point.
It’s also just reached an insane level of delusion. Who do these kids think they are? People have become nonsensical to the point many can’t understand they were already being paid in the form of a full ride.
I live in oregon and can tell you the beavers are as small as you’d suspect. When I read their starting running back was making $400,000 I almost had a stroke

I’ve always enjoyed college athletics for the community, tradition and passion that I’ve always felt pro sports have lacked. Everything is out of control with college sports and that includes coaching salaries. There should never be a universe where Ed orgeron is worth over 25 million. I’m a capitalist but it would be nice if we put value in actual meaningful professions.

I agree with you on coaching salaries. It went from < 1 million per year to now over 10 million per year for top coaches.

I’m really interested to see what happens the next month between the grove collective having to fund both football and basketball transfers. Kiffin and Beard are both elite coaches that can win a championship one day. I know when Beard turned down Arkansas he was promised more NIL money.

I could be wrong but I believe Saban is the factor in this.
Eddie O made $900k the same year that Saban signed an 8-year $32million contract.

LSU was the first school to pay a college football coach a million a year when we hired nick saban. I think it should have capped at 4 million for a top coach.

Hopefully everyone on here gives to the Grove Collective. I’m a monthly “subscriber”. Essentially you pay $40 a month for Ole Miss to put a fun product on the field and court. It’s worth every penny. That gives us a good base and then we have big time donors like the Jordans who make up the difference for big time players.

It’s all part of the same trend. Colleges sold out for the money - letting TV dictate when games are played, getting into arms races with coaching salaries and shiny new facilities, adding games to the season, hopping from conference to conference to chase extra dollars.
Then they complain that their sport has become professionalized. You can’t have it both ways

Princely will be fine. They’ll ease him back into it. Our schedule is more than manageable at the start of the season. He’ll be back full strength by the time we play a team that can come within 30 of us
