As I said from the beginning that when its all over, that I enjoyed watching this team like none before. We wont have one like that for a while. But saying that, if it was me I would have surely taken a different approach both on the mound and hitting. From the start I wouldn't have pitched Rolo first game despite it being our regular rotation. I understand you want to win the first game for sure, but Feigl could have done that.

Save Rolo for game 2 and then pitch Fowler to end it. You dont throw a fastball pitcher (Mac) to a fastball hitting team unless just necessary. Now for our hitting... Someone in that dugout should have sat them down and told them to take pitches. Run the pitch count up. Not go up there swinging at the first thing you see. And to also play some positional hitting. We had a couple of times also that we should have let Rowe and Fitzsimmons come in to shake things up. We just had a poor attempt at plate approach and pitching the right guys at the right time.

I have to tip my hat to Tenn Tech though, those guys wanted it more. I hated probably more than anyone the season ended like that. I put more emotion in this team than any prior one. We had a great run, but sucks nothing to show for it. And not sure who we will see back next year. Im tired of that phrase also, wait until next year. This should have been that year. I can try to blame the stupid umps and some of their calls, but even with that, we shouldn't be in a position for an ump to dictate a win or loss. We just didnt game plan well enough.

Ok end of rant. On to looking ahead to football season which Im sure we will have many rants about. Trying to find a way to stay positive.

Upvoted as you put more effort into this post than the team did yesterday in both games combined

Thanks, it just aggrevates me that we played so poorly. My only guess is that they believed they would just sweep through with nothing to worry about. I guess they didn't pay attention that we had the toughest on paper regional. Some of it can be blamed on coaching, but the players failed also. Coach can't go up there and swing the bats for them. But he can put the right pitchers in the better situation and also get them more motivated. We definitely had the fan support.

We did get kinda screwed by not being able to play Friday night, forcing us to have a game at noon on Monday where we physically couldn't get the crowd we'd earned between students having class and people having jobs. It wouldn't have mattered if we'd had a better approach at the plate. There's no reason a team that was this capable on offense should've gotten shut down by the combination of TN Tech's pitchers who shut them down. We were poorly coached on Monday, and we should've lost to them on Sunday. We should've done more, especially considering it wasn't the bullpen pitching, what I always figured was our Achilles heel and would be the thing keeping us from Omaha, that ultimately let us down

Also, as happy as I was for Ryan Rolison, I thought it was poor timing on announcing his selection with the game on the line. I wonder if that took away from the team mentality wise.

I think we've about all covered everything we didn't do Monday. I agree wholeheartedly about the Friday rainout. I thought the same myself that playing on Monday took away some of the energy our home field advantage was gonna generate. Still, like you say, no excuse whatsoever. This is all made worse by the fact that that ol' raggedy arse State team is still playing. But this, too, shall pass. Watch us go like 32-19 next year, barely make the regional, win it and the Super and wind up in Omaha with a team out of no where we bitch about all year long.

HJJ would STILL be bitching.

"I don't know why we even got invited to play in the tournament. We didn't deserve it with the way we played all year. Even if we win the whole thing, they should still fire everyone because of the shoddy play they had during the season."

If Matt Luke is our head coach still, this is a good bet

Congrats to Fowler and Tyler Keenan for getting named Freshmen All-America, even though Keenan somehow wasn’t freshman all-conference...

Believe it.

No business calling State terrible. They beat us 3/4. Vandy beat us as well.

MSU peaked at the right time.

They have an edge about them. You gotta remember, their postseason started the last weekend of the regulat season. Had to win against Florida just to get in.

Got to be happy for a bunch of MS kids to get to play in Omaha.

I'm not ever happy with MSU doing anything. I don't care where the kids are from. I'm definitely not rooting for them. Ever.

No sir. They have like two people who bat over .300 and have no pitching. They have just played a shitty regional with FSU that doesn’t know how to play in the post season then vandy who was on their level.

If we cannot win in the post season with our talent something is wrong on the coaching side. Hell state has an interim and can make Omaha

Agree Reggie, happy for State also as they represent the State of MS well with their attitude and effort. Would rather our Rebs get better than hope for failure for the Dawgs..now LSU on the other hand

Ole Colonel, I’m not trying to say anything against what you’re saying, but look at the last part of your comment. You said for us it has to be on coaching, but state won with an interim. Baseball is a very different sport than most. Yes we had some coaching blunders, but as I’ve said before a coach can’t swing the bat or throw the ball for them. MSU players just got up more for the tournament than our guys, plus us having a tough regional.
Bianco didn’t cost us this tournament. The ball just didn’t bounce the right way for us. Believe me, I scratch my head at some of his decisions, but a baseball coach can only do so much. MSU basically coached themselves. It’s just a letdown period for us right now and before long we will be getting the chance to really put down a coach come football time.
Again nothing against what you were saying, but our guys just didn’t get up for the series.

I have a lot of family in Mississippi, but I'm not from there, so my allegiance to Mississippi is strictly to Ole Miss. I'll never have a reason to cheer for State to succeed same as I'll never have a reason to cheer for LSU to succeed. Good for them I guess, and damn our team for not having it in them

I understand completely. Dad was a Bulldog so I pull for them when not playing our Rebs. Their program for some reason has more of an edge to them that I wish we had with Bianco. Seems like we need just one of our major sports teams to grab some success to shed the WAOM virus.

Nah it’s on the hitting coach when you can’t hit an 85 mph fastball

At least when Small Dick Nick came in and started mowing us down, he was throwing 90+ fastballs in the zone and a mean enough looking slider in the low 80s. Getting wrecked by a junk ball pitcher and refusing to develop any modicum of patience at the plate (he can’t even get close to 90! Why wouldn’t you want to see more than one pitch?!!??!!?!!?!?) is pathetic and unforgivable. If it’s on the hitting coach, Bianco, the players (I love you Olenek, but what the frick happened to you after the hitting streak ended?), or whomever, I’ll never not be disappointed that arguably our most talented team in ever couldn’t do what our rival could do with an interim coach and questionable pitching. We lost because we were soft, and State advanced because they willed themselves to do such. It’s dumb. It’s baseball
