This.

It looked like the same stale play-calling coupled with bad O line play that was masked by vastly inferior competition today.

I’ll take the W. But this will be tough to watch in the coming weeks.

No one was expecting us to really open the playbook against Georgia state right?

It's not about the play calling - it's how terrible our OL looked against Georgia State.

How much has our play-calling differed from yesterday since Weis has been here?

Underneath or sideline passes for low yardage are first looks rather than dumps. There was a lot of that yesterday, but the play was extended because of disparity in athletic talent.

And it was against Georgia state with a first time starting QB.

I’m not saying that Weiss is fine or anything…..but you should have expected the blandest, most vanilla, and uninspiring offensive game plan imaginable.

No one is going to open up the offense against a game 1 garbage team and let the next tougher opponents have all of the game film they need. Simmons did throw down field quite a bit last night and underneath passes are a great way to keep the secondary from staying back for the deep routes.

Judge the playcalling starting next week.

Early line on FanDuel has us as 10.5 point favorites.

I saw some of the Kentucky game and they really struggled on offense against Toledo. They lost their best two WRs in the portal from last year and it shows. If we stop the run and win the turnover battle we will cover that spread. Kentucky is pretty decent on defense so we will find out a lot more about this offense this Saturday.

Well, I’m worried about stopping the run after last night. We’re missing Pooh in a big way and I thought our linebackers looked…not great. I was with the family and everyone was jabbering non-stop so I didn’t watch super close, but I’m planning on re-watching it today and hoping I was just being negative.

When you rewatch it, look to see if the safeties and linebackers are playing up closer to the line or if they’re just sitting back presnap. I didn’t pay that much attention to them but I would assume we also played fairly vanilla on defense as well. They may have just been playing a safe defense. I remember the defense tightening up inside the 30. But that’s always been a Golding defense. He’s going to give up yardage to save the big play.

Will do. What stuck out to me was seeing big holes open and our LB’s playing flat footed and giving 4yds and waiting on contact. That led to a few nasty plays where we got juked with concrete shoes on what should have never been an open field tackle if they scraped down and filled to begin with.

Yeah that’s screams vanilla to me. Now whether that is because of scheme or talent…..I can’t say lol.

I’m so glad our schedule ramps up for next week going forward

Dicking around the entire first month like last year was awful. The games weren’t fun and we didn’t really know how we were and weren’t tested and faced no adversity.

Call me crazy but I’m just not that impressed by Sellers at South Carolina. I don’t get the hype

The last quarter really padded his stats. Real teams will eat them alive.

I really liked how we involved the TEs in the game plan. Hopefully, that aspect stays in our offense. That being said, having the TE block may be necessary.

I wish we played them earlier in the season. He started really slow last year too before getting hot to end the year.

He played bad teams to end the year (plus Clemson). I’m not convinced he got better, just easier opponents.

The biggest adjustments and potential improvements come between game 1 and 2. They'll work on a lot this week after film.

The OL needs to improve. That's a given. Our main focus this week should be on stopping the run and short passes over the middle to exploit QB pressure.
