I’ll add another thing, and maybe it’s because of the lack of media access and availability of the players, it feels like we never have any real attachment to the players . We don’t know their stories .

Then they bring in these “mercenaries” from the transfer portal for a year and win some games hopefully then they move on

It’s like the fans don’t really know the players anymore on the football team

( maybe that’s the old man emerging from me but it’s how I feel )

honestly kinda feel the same.

We're coming off a 10-win regular season and I'm kinda "meh" about this coming season. Baseball might have played a part in that though.

I was thinking about that this morning. I’m ready for football, don’t get me wrong, but I’m not at “zoned in” or excited as I have been in the past. I think winning it all in baseball has something to do with that.

Football will be a lot like basketball now where it takes you a game or two to learn the roster. I listen to all the ole miss podcasts and if they talk about recruiting or transfer news I hear it there but it’s still in one ear out the other. I find myself checking the fan sites less and less for news.

not how NIL works.

The only people willing to pay these kids millions of dollars are the actual schools or boosters affiliated with the schools.

If you want this to work you need transparency with contracts and you need to implement salary caps like the NFL or you’re gonna get the MLB. And guess what? We’re not gonna be the New York Yankees in that scenario.

It’s also the dead of the summer guys. We just won a Natty and all the players are taking this month off to visit home. Once training camp opens up we will be getting better word on who is flashing in practice and the anticipation will mount!

You cannot cap how much someone can make off of their likeness.

An NFL player can still make more money on endorsements than what the team is paying him.

I’m okay with guys getting legitimate endorsements but the NIL money that’s to entice recruits to go to a particular school should be capped in some way.

If not then how much money would it take for ole miss to compete for playoff spots?

Gentlemen, I'm not sure that I like it and I don't think most you do either, but the bottom line is things are changing in a big way. 5 years from now college football is going to be a totally different animal than what it has been.

I'm not sure what it's going to look like when the dust settles from NIL, conference realignment, etc. I don't think anyone is but the times they are a'changin

This is what NIL is.

This is not what NIL is. This is Pay-for-play and illegal.

And yet are we supposed to believe that “pay for play” is not taking place considering how impotent the NCAA has seemingly become?

Except for A&M, Miami, and every other major university out there...

Never said programs weren't breaking the rules or that the NCAA appropriately enforced them.

...I'm just saying people need to stop thinking NIL is something that can be capped.

We had the opportunity for players to be compensated a *reasonable* amount but the NCAA and other big wheels of the sport(I.E. Dabo Swinney) refused to budge one inch.

Yeah, but by saying “that’s illegal” is clearly insinuating schools aren’t breaking the rules regularly. We all know they are. It’s complete bullshite and as I’ve said before, ole miss gonna be the last school to get bent over by those cocksuckers at the NCAA. What a buncha bullshite.

All I see on the recruiting page is commits to Alabama, lsu, Georgia, Tennessee and the occasional Arkansas, repeat. It’s a bit worrisome. Can’t help it.

If the NFL can structure a rookie salary cap then there has to be a legit way to identify true market value of an incoming freshman recruit. I know it isn’t an apples to apples situation since it is NIL and not a salary. I guess the market will dictate it in a way. There will be numerous young men that won’t live up to their hype and these boosters will soon learn that they are wasting significant money that neither the on-field play nor the marketing endorsements will fulfill (cough, cough Arch, Rashada and about 1/2 the kids that signed with A&M last year).

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seemed like we were really in on Rashada and then all of a sudden Miami gains a bunch of steam and dude goes from one coast to the other and it's a done deal. Now Miami is also getting other high star guys. One would be pretty naive to think there isn't some high-powered bidding going on that we just can't match.
