She was certainly more soulful than the others

Had she lasted and gotten cleaned up you could see Janis Joplin singing a gospel album. As weird as it would be to have a former street prostitute singing gospel.

No, you are an idiot. Need more than a couple of albums or 4-5 years of activity to be considered the Queen of Rock and Roll.
Once upon a time . . .

... thought it maybe be Tina.

Joan, Ann Wilson, and Stevie would all just have to fight each other for the title. Personally, I prefer Stevie.

Grace Slick or Joan Jett.

Not really A queen really. More of a round table.

There aren't that many female rock singers with long careers, which makes it harder to judge. I think Lita Ford deserves consideration. If metal counts, Floor Jansen for the win.

Benatar, Turner, or Ronstadt.
and Stevie and Ann/Nancy and Joan Jett/Runaways/Lita Ford and Janis and who else has been mentioned?

Benatar, I've never owned a CD or cassette of her. Would I listen to her for 30 seconds on the radio? Sure

Tina? Never owned anything of hers and think she's overblown.

Joan Jett, Runaways, Lita Ford, not a fan. Lita is sexy as hell in those old Runaways videos though.

Heart? Liked them alot and would crank barraduca like a banshee. Never bought any of their albums though.

Linda Ronstadt? I do own an old CD and would listen to it from front to back on a long road trip. Have in fact.

Janis? Road trip music front to back. Have done it many times. Anyone who thinks Janis was overrated is a dumbass who probably owns a Taylor Swift CD and a Taylor Swift bedroom poster - looking at your wartiger

Fleetwood Mac? I've loved Stevie since I was in grade school. I can't stand the current day female star idiots who talk Stevie into coming on stage with them and then treating Stevie like she's there to be their backup singer. It's happened more than once. Not sure why Stevie allows that to happen. I guess she needs the money?

Bonnie Raitt's stuff before the 80's is awesome - Angel from Montgomery is American art

Amy Lee is a world treasure. Do I like the guitar guys in her old band? Of course not. It's all her.

Bonnie

Without Question…..

Sister Rosa Tharpe …She was playing Rock music in the 40’s before Sun Records was spitting out Rocket 88, That’s Alright Mama, and etc. And I respect the Heck out of Sun Records being born and raised in Metro Memphis.

Edit…She was doing it in the 1930’s!

Janis first comes to mind, but after further meditation, I'm going with Tina Turner. As I understand it, up until a year or so ago, she was still doing a concert or two every now and then. She's been living in Switzerland of all places for about 25 years now.

Stevie is the Queen of Singing Offkey. Turrible.

Ann Wilson is the answer.

Some good answers here, and some I think are wrong, but nobody's yet mentioned Chrissy Hynde?

Did y'all listen to her Plastic Hearts album, or recent Nothing Else Matters cover?
