I lived in GulfPort when I attended tech school at Keesler. The first thing I think of is Biloxi and the Casinos. I enjoy a good night of gambling and will occasionally travel over to MS just to gamble.

Actual observations from living there. Poverty, obesity, and gambling.

If there's an advantage, its the rice crops in Arkansas that feed the ducks. Arkansas is a world leader in rice production and its all in those few counties over there around Stuttgart. Over there, you hunt rice, corn fields or flooded timber.

Well we have a shite ton of rice fields too so while I would say Arkansas duck hunting is usually a little better, it's not bc yall have rice and we don't

You can thank my Great Grandfather for that. He founded the Riceland foods co-OP that caused rice production to skyrocket.

Well, by objective measures, the Arkansas Delta isn't as poor as the MS Delta. It isn't as black, either, though. MS Delta definitely produced more blues music, although the AR side produced its share.

If you throw in towns like Jonesboro into Arkansas Delta, its not all that bad. Jonesboro sucks, but by Delta standards its a wonderful place to raise a family and has a growing economy and expanding population. Stuttgart is actually still majority white, barely. The Arkansas side is whiter, which meant less emphasis on segregation academies, etc. The cultures are different because the demographics are different.

Well personally having more black people doesn't bother me. The blacks here aren't like the ones in say inner city Memphis. You don't get the crime and shootings here...most are good folk. They're poor and have their issues but you don't really feel unsafe. Most were hard working folk but jobs are scarce if you don't own land...mechanization took all the AG related jobs away and the cotton market going down caused the textile mills and gins to close, leaving large unemployment with few decent jobs.

You can go to Greenwood where you have Viking and 2 catfish processing plants and it is still a nice town with a solid middle class. Same with Cleveland with the college and a decent industrial area.

All in all I prefer the ms delta because there is more to do. We have blues festivals, some decent bars that surprisingly attract some good looking women, casinos, historic restaurants with great food, etc. Arkansas delta always seemed very boring to me.
