Franklin would survive on its own without Nashville. Tennessee is a great state from the very tip top northeast in Johnson City all the way to the very southwest in Memphis and all the wonderful places in between like chattanooga, knoxville, jackson and plenty of other great places. Nashville is just like all capital cities... swampy but probably the best capital city in the Southeastern US.

Texas at 38 is a joke.

Hell the entire list is a joke. Are you telling me that a vast majority of people would rather live in Minnesota over Texas?

Or the Dakotas? I mean wtf

South Dakota does have on its speed limit signs in some parts "loosely enforced" so that's a positive. It also has illuminati presidents carved into a mountain.

Minnesota is actually great. I'd hate the weather, but when I saw the link the state that popped first into my mind was Minnesota.
You're correct 3-4 months a year, but unless you're part (or all) Eskimo, you will suffer the rest of the time. During a few times in the year Washington is nice, but the rest of the time it's cold, snowy/rainy and misty/cloudy.

Remove the best part of each state and let's see where they all land :)

Tennessee would move up, past Georgia at the very least.

48. Mississippi

50. Louisiana

This really makes no sense. Depending on the outlet these two are really interchangeable in terms of education.

Louisiana has a better and more convenient geographic location. Louisiana has a somewhat stable oil and chemical industry. Louisiana is easily a top 5 food state in the country and is rich in culture. But whatever US news...

Keep in mind this is coming from a High School student who is trying to leave Louisiana for University.

According to the ranks, Mississippi is getting much better marks on crime and natural environment.

I've lived in 7 SEC states. Unfortunately, Louisiana comes in 7th for me. I never lived in Mississippi but I imagine it would be 8th out of 8 based on my many drive-throughs.

Most cities find a way to survive on their own. Franklin is not the only US suburb.

Tennessee is a great state from the very tip top northeast in Johnson City

Johnson City has almost nothing to offer.

quote:

ll the way to the very southwest in Memphis

Literally the worst Top 50 metro in the US other than maybe Buffalo.

quote:

and all the wonderful places in between like chattanooga, knoxville, jackson

I'll give you Chattanooga. Knoxville is okay. Jackson, TN?? Really?

quote:

Nashville is just like all capital cities... swampy but probably the best capital city in the Southeastern US.

No. Atlanta destroys Nashville. Raleigh is on par. Nashville is a good town but I also think its highly overrated.

People from Nashville act as if its growth over the past decade is unprecedented in human history... like its the only US city that's booming.

Since 2010, it's 8th in the SOUTH in terms of growth rate. MSA growth rates of Top 50 Metros in the South, 2010-2017:

26.3%- Austin
20.5%- Orlando
20.5%- Raleigh
18.2%- Houston
17.5%- San Antonio
17.3%- Dallas
15.9%- Charlotte
15.6%- Nashville

Yes, Nashville is booming. No denying that. But its not really growing any faster than most major metros in the South. In fact its 8th..... and Jacksonville (14.1%), Tampa (12.9%), and Atlanta (12.5%) are all right behind as well.

I just don't understand why people from Nashville act as if their post-recession growth is an anomaly unlike any other city in America. It's not.

Actually, Texas wants to be its own damned country. Texans could care less about anyone or anything else

Listening to Texans talk about Texas is easily one of the most nauseating things on this planet. There's this uncontrollable urge to tell everyone they're from Texas and about how great the state is. Though it seems as though they are constantly trying to "sell" the state to you, there is a sense of unwarranted elitism about them. Texas is odd.

I've lived in Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Tennessee. Louisiana was by far my favorite to live in, but I'll admit the quality of life is better in the other three. Louisiana is second to none for the culture/food though.
