Missouri is definitely a midwest state. But the midwest is the first cousin of the south. Culturally they're very similar.

Leave the SEC, you are not southern, not good enough, and most importantly not wanted.

If you have to present a slide show to try and convince yourself and others you're not a Yankee then you're a Yankee.

Sorry...the only true map to determine if you are really Southern or not...what you call a soft drink. Soda??? I think not, Yankee.

Just saw this is Germans from another post...but my map is better.

Soda, pop, whatever...

Most of us don't drink the stuff preferring
a frosty cold hoppy beverage.

The rest of the South needs to catch on, sodie pop
(who's heard that one!)is bad for your health.

Drink water or beer!

Missouri is the midwest, they don't make sense in the SEC. Should've gone after a NC or VA school.

Hey I like the south, but being from STL I don't consider myself southern, but there are part of MO that are. as far as the civil war that everyone keeps making ref to I would side with the ideals of the North, but with that being said I love being in the SEC

They frown on me drinking beer at work...this place is like a Gulag camp.

Yeah, I never understood the whole "Coke" thing. A Sprite/Dr. P/etc. is NOT a Coke.

I grew up south of Lexington in KY. Historically my family has gone from a Virginia Plantation down through North Carolina, over into Tennessee, and up just across the border into Kentucky. I guess that's why personally I always identify with the south. We call all carbonated beverages a Coke and so on and so forth.

However!

When I get north of Lexington I no longer feel as if I'm in the south. Kentucky is not a wholly southern state. From Louisville to Cinci it dissipates quickly. Not to say they don't share the same qualities, but the culture is decidedly muddled from there on out. And historically I have always thought of Kentucky as a Southern state that went to bat for the wrong team. Its the confederacies fault actually, they got too jumpy and broke our neutrality.

Now living in St. Louis I can say if you head south out of town down by Ste. Genevieve it starts to feel southern. Pines and all! But St. Louis might as well be Cleveland in my eyes.

Alright.... I'm done.... BIG WALL OF TEXT.

I actually read all of your post. Spacing between paragraphs can do wonders for readers.

But, I still do not understand how you distinguish. When you ask for a "Coke," does the waiter ask, "What kind?"

If you are from KC, you know Missouri isn't close to being a southern state. Bunch of Midwestern douchebags in the mold of Dan Gilbert.

Nobody considers you southern and never will

- The deep south, and upland south

ETA: Atleast from a Southerners standpoint. Merry Christmas
