This is kind of a spinoff of SinAg's post..

List 5 different jobs that you have had and basically when you had them. IF you dont have 5 different ones, list what you have done...

1 - Professional Freshwater Fishing Guide (18 years) - Currently still employed on Lake Lanier - Also own my own tackle company but that is similar so I wont list it separately. Pretty explanatory. I guide fishermen on Lake Lanier for Spotted Bass, teach techniques, electronics and basic fun

2 - Electronics Engineer - 14 years - Worked for NEC Technologies and Rockwell Automation after college. Circuit design, product development - Both companies relocated so I fricking quit that career.

3 - Dock Worker - 6 years - Worked my way through college unloading freight for Thurston Motor Lines. Once I graduated college and started working as Engineer, I kept my job at night on the dock so my wife could quit her job and go to college..

4 - Van Conversions - 2 years - Most of you are too young but there was a fad in the 80's for big vans converted like RV's. TVs, high tops, carpet, beds you name it. I worked most of my high school days for a company that did the conversions.

5 - Dish Washer - 6 months - My first job - Worked for Shoneys washing dishes and cleaning up around the restaurant before I even turned 16 years old. I would work a few days during the week at night then I would work Friday and Saturday night till very late.

What you got?

1) 30 years at differing levels of IT work in state government. Started as a swing shift operator, later became a programmer/analyst and for the last 15 years I've IT manager for a state agency. Only job I've had since my junior year in college.

2) Volunteer firefighter/EMT. While it doesn't pay, I spend as much time on it as a part time job and the certifications and training are the same for the career guys so might as well call it a job. Been doing that for over 18 years.

3) Various construction jobs during summers and breaks while in college. Off and on for about 3 years.

4) Worked at truss shop building prefabricated trusses and floor joists. Gusset plates suck. You'll cut your fingers no matter what kind of gloves you wear. Did this as an after school and summer job my senior year in high school.

5) As a teenager, worked weekends and summers on my grandfather and uncle's dairy farm. Did this off and on from the time I was big enough to actually help until I started college.

1. Waiter/Server at Olive Garden(college) - only for a couple of weeks. Manager and I had a difference of opinion on me being high while working. I walked out in the middle of a shift on a busy Friday night.

2. Revenue Clerk for a telecommunications company(right after college) - basically sat in a cube all day reviewing a sample of telephone bills for accuracy. Sounds as awful as it was, though it was amazing how many mistakes I found in bills on a daily basis.

3. Bell Hop at hotel(college) - pretty fun job, though the pay sucked.

4. Bagger at a grocery store(high school) - Pretty fun job as most everyone else working the cash registers and bagging were high schoolers as well. The actual bagging of groceries got old, but not horrible. Getting high in the milk cooler and cooking steaks on a George Foreman grill in the meat department manager's office was fun.

5. Financial Officer of a non-profit(few years ago) - Pretty rewarding job as the non-profit did very noble work, and the people I worked with were great. Left it for more money at current job, and often times regret it, though I do like my current job. It's just not as emotionally rewarding.

My cousin , who was like a brother to me growing up, is the fire Marshall for my home town. He has been a fireman basically since he got out of school. He talked me into trying to do volunteer work for them when I was young. They had a burn building that they did exercises in. After all the classes, you had to be a part of a 5 man team who went into the burn building and find stuff. It was a block building with block stairs. They put pallets in there and caught them on fire with some kind of fuel. Yea, pretty much NO after that. I dont think people truly understand how damn hot a fire is and how little you can see.

Ended that adventure right there. I will just stand back and let the real men do that.

Stocker at Grocery Store in High school.
Most fun job I've ever had. It was about 10 guys all in HS, manager was 21, he didn't give a shite what we did as long as we finished freight. Usually ended playing hide and seek in the back of the store.

Worked as a jailer in the county jail through college, pay was decent and only worked 3 twelves a week.

Finished college and became a teacher, taught two years, worked at Lowes during the summer.

Now only work for Lowes as a Project Sales Specialist, really enjoy my work and make twice as much as I did as a teacher.

I worked at a family business during high school and college. Mostly washing cars and paperwork. I did change some tires when they had a tire business too. That's a dirty job.

I stocked groceries at a beach one summer.

I was a safety engineer at a manufacturing plant after college.

I lived out west for a while cooking in national parks after I decided to change careers and go back to school.

Manage critical IT issues for a large company now.

1. First job was a cashier at a sporting goods store. Terribly boring...

2. Ranch hand for a while in high school. Did everything you can think of... Paint fences, muck stalls, etc.

3. Waiter/server at a country club. Loved this job. Wasn't super busy, but I got some huge tips quite often.

4. Substitute teaching was my first job out of college. I have a whole new respect for public school teachers.

5. Not a job, but currently in Dental School. I study enough for it to feel worse than a job, yet I pay to be here... I'm excited about to be in the profession though.

Stocker at Grocery Store in High school.

Only job I have ever been fired from in my life. When I graduated High school, I was waiting to start college and had a few months to burn. I got a job at a local Piggly Wiggly about a mile from my home stocking shelves from 3am till about 8am three or four days a week. Just a little pocket change to keep me going

When they would open in the morning, they would at times ask a few of us to come up front a bag groceries. I did that a few times and it was cool. One morning after I had finished my stock and bagged about an hour, the manager called me up to the office and said a customer had complained that I was rude to her and fired me.

To this day I have no idea what so ever what happened that day. I never had any run ins with any customers and was always very nice to them. Only thing I can think of was it was someone else and I got the blame.

I will swear to my grave that I did nothing to deserve getting fired for.
