I would mostly agree with most of his assessment. Except most of the Hill Country folks are not hippies as some in Austin are.

Th "piney woods" of east Texas are pretty southern, culturally speaking. Not so much anywhere else. I'm from around the Tyler area so I'd say I know it pretty well.

having spent a couple years in longview (then a year in dallas and the hill country), I agree with this...

No one ever noticed my accent until i moved out of east texas and into dallas.

Jamie Foxx was a pretty damn good QB for Terrell High School, by the way.

That's not how i see it.

East Texas has some areas that you would swear are Louisiana--so in that regard there is a good area that is "Southern"

I mean it is a huge state, you have some "yankees" and just some plain midwestern country folk They say "ya'll", so i say we include em

I don't know about the rest of Mississippi, but my time in Oxford was around the shortest collection of males I have ever seen. The average height must have been 5' 8".

Agreed. You can just refer to us as Texans. No other moniker is required. It's synonymous with "Badasses," "Your Betters," and "arse Kickers." Just refer to us as Texans.

I can agree to this.

I never got when people talked about this. Do people really notice the average height of males around them?

I couldnt tell you if I saw tall people or short people when I go out of town.

I have heard when people go to China or Japan they notice it, so I don't think it is too weird. I didn't consciously go to Oxford looking at how tall everyone was, it just stood out. I mean I'm a hair over 6' 4", so maybe it was amplified, but it was definitely noticeable.
