Mizzou hired drink not because of the coach he was, but the coach they thought he could be. An experienced P4 coach probably wouldn’t have received the same grace the first 3 seasons.
Schools are now considering drink based on the coach he has become. He will not have the same grace period regardless where he ends up.
Hoping Drink recognizes the opportunity and support Mizzou offered during his development.

Truth is Drink was hired after the 1st 3 candidates were rejected and a former player recommended him and our AD needed to move fast. He'd only been a HC for a year. He actually sucked, didn't have an innovative offense and the team improved only when he gave up playcalling. Remember his reliance on trick plays?
2023 had 5 NFL guys on defense and Baker blitzed 40% of the time, plus the easier SEC schedule and Drink looks like a Mizzou God.
What I would like to see is how this nerd becomes such a beast once you let him in your home. Dude can straight up recruit.

Remember the skill group he inherited? Peeler and Woods had to completely rebuild the WR and TE rooms. The oline room wasnt far behind. The team improved after Jones was hired and fixed the interior.

Well Rhule just became a little harder sell to PSU fans.

9 sacks. Raiola holds on to the ball too long.

Think his uncle gets fired?

Dan Mullen is probably the one to get the PSU HC job. He is a Pennsylvania native.

If he isnt considering a change he should be. The oline is undisciplined overall and nowhere as good as they should be in year 4, especially at LT.

Read an article a few days ago about how Mike Elko would be a perfect fit. If A&M doesn’t make the playoffs his name will be at the top of the list. They have the money to buy out his contract and can match anything A&M will pay.
He’s from New Brunswick, New Jersey about 2:30 hours from the Penn State campus and went to the University of Pennsylvania.
They have Mizzou, LSU, and Texas on the road. Not an easy road to the playoffs

Wait, who were these guys?

Anderson from Arkansas State was the number 1 choice and was ready to accept. Also Monken from Army was #2 and Calhoun from Air Force. Sunvold wiped his azz with the list.
Read this, this is how we got Drink.

Gabe makes shite up.
The Press Box Superfriends tell this story over and over again. So much that everyone takes it for the Gospel. It’s not.

Whether that was a final list or not remains a point of disagreement.

How far it got on Missouri’s side still depends on who is telling the story, even almost six years later.

Thank you! Sterk played that board, at their game. Then had 2 people in mind all along. His number #1 was Harstin, #2 was Drink.

I think Sterk and Sundvold played the board to get the guy they wanted. The PBS got played right along with them. And no one will ever admit it.

But if it wasn't true, then using Wilson would have been a risk. There is no reason to inject Wilson into the story unless there was truth to it. And Drink did only have the 1 offer from Arkansas. Remember their reaction when we hired him? I think they saw him as a lock because of his Alma roots.

I think the Wilson point is true.
The whole “final three names were Dick and Joe and Todd” wasn’t.

Well we know Anderson was on there or at least someone had him ready to leave, because Arkansas State was looking. Then it stopped. Kinda like Rhule to Mizzou, Temple knew it, then it just stopped.

As I said in the Kiffin thread, the only reason to leave is the same.
Do you like living in Columbia vs somewhere else. It's in the middle of fricking Missouri as a low major city with a dying mall and like 3 fancy restaurants. It's a tough place to flex money. It may not matter for Eli, but it might matter for the wife.
Happy Valley isn't better, but what is?
Also, I haven't been to CoMo for at least 20 years, perhaps it's not as far away from nice things as it used to be. Pretty sure there's a BMW and MB dealership there now, back when I was there we had to go to STL or KC to get an oil change. Still, can only buy so many nice things at Maurice's at the Columbia Mall.
I don't expect him to leave, but if he ever does, it will be to somewhere that's not in the middle of nowhere.

But but but they got a Trader Joe’s now.
Bro, COMO got plenty of shite to do. Fantastic smaller city, and I believe got himself a spot at LOTO as well.
