re: Congressional map has been drawn that shows what happens without any gerrymandering
Posted by MizzouBS on 5/11/26 at 12:38 am to Major Dutch Schaefer
Maps off in Missouri. Without gerrymandering Missouri would have 4 solid red, 2 blue, and 2 purple that lean blue.
St Louis has 5 districts in the metropolitan area. With no gerrymandering St Louis would have 1 blue district, 1 red, and one purple district
Without gerrymandering Kansas City would have 2 districts instead of 3. 1 blue and 1 purple.
50% of Missouri’s population live in the Kansas City and St Louis metropolitan areas.

re: Trump announces ceasefire between Russia & Ukraine

It’s a holiday in both countries. Ukraine had 8 to 10 million people die in WWII. More than quarter of the Soviet deaths were from the Ukraine. After the Russian invasion they moved the date from May 9th to May 8th.
Both countries wanted the ceasefire

Yes and no. One of the biggest reasons was because people in the south didn’t like people from the north. Kinda of like politics today a lot of people on the left and people on the right don’t like each other. Slavery was the biggest reason.
There was a little over 3,700 freed black people that owned slaves. A lot of the black people that owned slaves bought family members out of slavery. There was around 3.5 million slaves and little over 12,000 were owned by black people. There wasn’t “many, many” black people that owned slaves. 99% plus were owned by white people

This is the product of 10 straight years of media propaganda and gaslighting about Trump. ALL forms of media.
This is not a new phenomenon that the media has created. The media hasn’t helped, but it’s not something that is new. Every president in the last 100 years has an attempt on their life except Johnson. Ford had 2 attempts in 17 days 1 of them was from 3 feet away, Reagan was shot, 17 people were arrested related to a plot to kill HW Bush, Clinton had 4, W Bush had a grenade thrown at the podium he was speaking at that malfunctioned, Obama had 11 attempts, and Biden had 2.
People are crazy and believe in what they are doing. John Hinckley was released from prison 4 years ago after serving 41 years for shooting Reagan. He shot Reagan to impress Jodie Foster
There are probably a lot of more plots or attempts on presidents that have been thwarted that the public doesn’t know about.
The motorcade and the White House are both around a half a mile from where the shooter was shot.

I don’t think this was assignation attempt. It was a plain closed SS agent patrolling that saw someone with a gun. You can conceal and carry in DC just not on Memorial grounds. This was at the National Mall

Governor’s, Senators, Congressmen, or State Representatives that stand on principle and don’t toe the party line is what politics should be. Politicians should represent their constituents and not the party. It shouldn’t be they do it so we’re gonna do it. More things would get done in Washington if people didn’t toe the party line and represent their constituents.
Do the majority of the people in the state want their districts to be gerrymandered? In Missouri the majority of people don’t want gerrymandered districts. It is on the ballot this fall and will pass
Politicians should not decide congressional districts

Gerrymandering is not real representation and both parties do it. You can live in a suburb north of St Louis and live closer to the other 7 congressman from the state. You would also live closer to around 10 of the 17 in Illinois and some in Indiana
Congressional districts should not be drawn up by political parties. They should be drawn up by independent group

A guy from Alabama went to Atlanta to kill Biden before the debate
I think this goes back to last month when Trump and the Prime Minister of India had a phone conversation about the Middle East and keeping the Straight of Hormuz open. They also talked about Elon with some reports saying Elon was on the call, but that has been denied by both.
Forget about Iran, Epstein files, ICE, and the US economy and look over here for a few hours or days. In the process piss off another country
It may not be the case, but he has been posting, saying, and doing things that is trying to get people’s attention off of Iran. He’s fired a cabinet member, fired a Navy Secretary, said Cuba’s next, India’s a hellhole, fight with the pope, fight with former Trump allies, posted about the media, late night talk show host, and the Supreme Court. All this and more in the past 5 days.
We will see what other off the wall stuff he says Saturday night at the correspondents dinner. It won’t be like dinners in the past when president’s get roasted and then the president roast people in the room. There will be no roasting of the president just him doing the roasting.

These are things that some people on the right, far right, some MAGA, and conspiracy theorists believe. The other 75% to 80% of the population laugh at, don’t believe, and make fun of those who do.
75% to 80% is probably to low. 50% of the people that voted for Trump don’t believe Obama or HRC is the big bad boogeyman out to overthrow the US government.
90% plus of the people that voted for Harris don’t believe Trump is out to overthrow the government. They just don’t like him and think he does or says stupid and bad things

Most got rid of the KKK name and go by something else. In southwest Missouri we have a group called the Joplin Honkies. Don’t let the name fool you the Honkies are hardcore. There was an episode on the ID channel about one of the Honkies that killed a black guy at a gas station with a beer bottle.

This war sucks. If Israel is so worried about nukes then they need to send their soldiers into Iran to get their nukes. Not us. Them
Hezbollah and Israel have been fighting since 1982. We had the opportunity to destroy Hezbollah in 1983 after the barracks bombing that killed 241 US troops, but Reagan continued to give arms to Iran until 1987.
Everything that is going wrong in Iran today could have been prevented in the 1980s. Reagan and Bush chose the wrong side. Iraq fought for 8 years trying to overthrow the Ayatollah and the US backed Iran
Iran sucks and we continue to make mistakes when it comes to anything to do with Iran. That’s why we need to stay out of the Middle East.
re: NBC Poll shows Trump support at lowest of 2nd term

Pretty much EVERY poll had him losing in 2016. Quite a few in 2024 as well.
The way polls are conducted have changed over the past 10 years.
In 2016 the polls got the popular vote correct. In 2016 in Pennsylvania the polls in Real Clear Politics had Clinton getting 46.2%. She got 47.5% of the vote. It wasn’t that they overestimated the vote for HRC they underestimated the vote for Trump. Some people that were polled were embarrassed to say they were voting for Trump. They also didn’t take into account no matter what some men said they couldn’t vote for a woman
The last poll
HRC 46.2%
Trump 44.3%
Johnson 3.0%
Stein 1.5%
Results
HRC 47.5%
Trump 48.2%
Johnson 2.4%
Stein .8%
In the other battleground states the same mistakes were made by the pollsters. All the undecided broke to Trump
quote:
Shocked an NBC News poll has low ratings. Equally shocked you were ecstatic to post it. You and the Dems are peas in a pod.
It’s not a who would you vote for poll. It’s an approval poll.
It’s not the Democrats approval rating of him that has went down. Trump’s strongly approval with registered Republicans has dropped from 58% to 52%. His overall approval with registered Republicans dropped from 87% to 83%. I think the strongly approval numbers dropping by 6% points is a bigger deal than his overall approval rating. A little over a year ago his numbers were over 95% approval with registered Republicans
When 1 poll is around 37% it could be an outlier, but when all polls have him around or below 40% it’s a sign people think he is doing a bad job. Again this is an approval poll not a who you would vote for poll.
The look on face while pushing out a silent but deadly fart.

I'm Catholic and will criticize him whenever I see fit. He needs to stay out of politics.
Plenty of preachers and the evangelical churches weigh in on politics. Billy Graham mainly favored Republicans and actively campaigned for Nixon
JFK believed in separation of church and state. He said he would not take direction from the Pope or any other clergy on his decision making.
Just because the Pope or any other religion believes how something should be handled it is the President’s job to ignore it.
No matter how much you disagree with the Pope or what he believes or says is irrelevant when it comes to politics or policy. Trump should know this and leave it alone. It’s not Trump’s personality to leave things alone, but when it comes to religion he is smart enough to know that there are boundaries. He started the fight with the Pope because he wanted to
It’s ok to criticize the Pope and/or Trump on this issue or any other topic

Israel and Hezbollah have been bombing each other since 1982 when Hezbollah was founded in Lebanon 3 years after the coup in Iran. We were supplying Iran with weapons until 1987. In the Gulf War in 1990 Iran help the US against Iraq, but Hezbollah was still fighting Israel from Iran. To say we have been fighting with Iran for almost 50 years is wrong. In the 80’s and early 90’s Reagan and Bush had working relationship with Iran.
In the early 2000’s Iran helped overthrow the Taliban. Iran didn’t want the Taliban in their country.
We didn’t really start to have problems with Iran until they started a Nuclear program. Bush, Obama, Biden, and Trump have did a terrible job working with Iran. We should have kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon and Iran instead of invading Iraq.

Why were federal dollars being used to fund charities?
Catholic church partners with different organizations and use federal grants in medical research, housing, food drives, food kitchens, addiction recovery, pregnancy centers, shelter for domestic violence, and many more.
Children’s Mercy in Kansas City partners with Medicaid administration, mental health infrastructure, public health advocacy, and healthy housing programs.
