UofA doesn't mean much to him anymore, wishes he went somewhere else. Has tried to be a part of the staff in some form for the last couple of years but gets told no.

Tried to meet Pittman and got told no.

quote:

“(Arkansas) doesn’t mean a lot to me now honestly.” Hillis stated during the interview. “They’re not going back to their roots, they’re not getting any Arkansas guys that actually care about the university.”

Some people take that kind of shite too hard

Hate to see that, but some of his other points were valid.

- "the more money they have, the dumber they seem to get."
- SEC expansion hurt UA from a recruiting standpoint, specifically with TX, LA, and MO kids.
- never had a QB during his career outside of Matt Jones his freshman year
- Petrino was able to win and compete by way of mismatches (+ a dynamic QB)

I hate to say it, but he's not too far off base. I'm not exactly proud of Razorback football at the moment.

Sounds to me like a bunch of ex players thought they could walk into campus a s get a coaching job just because they wrr ex players.

Drew Morgan tried the same thing. There's a difference between the university embracing you as a player and not handing over a coveted job for someone with no experience.

Not sure I really buy this. Our recruiting in Texas is the same as it was before 2012 (mediocre). And we just signed more 4 stars in 2019 than we ever have.

There was a thread on the rant a few weeks ago and one of the subjects brought up was how many 4* and 5* players Oregon gets from California. Their in-state talent isn't very good just like ours, but if we could recruit Texas like they have California lately we'd be so much better. USC, UCLA, Stanford and Cal are pretty comparable to Texas, A&M, TCU and Texas Tech.

I guess one major difference is the only other P5 programs that border California are Oregon State, Arizona and Arizona State while we have to recruit against OU, LSU and Oklahoma State for east Texas recruits. Much harder to recruit against the latter. And Texas also has Baylor while the next best program from California would probably be Fresno State.

Depends on which expansion, imo. If he's talking about '92, then I agree. But if he's talking '12, then I disagree. Despite our awful record over the last 8 years, we haven't been recruiting worse. But many other SEC teams have been recruiting better during this span.

Hillis was telling the truth as he remembers it and I agree with some of what he says. As far as finding his niche as a player at ARK, well, Jones and McFadden were just flat out better than Peyton. The part of him expecting a 100k or so a year job when he's never coached nor recruited a day in his like, that's not going to happen at any D-1 school especially an SEC school so he can forget that. Peyton, you know, maybe, just maybe if you hadn't 'stuffed' that assistant coach's wife when you were playing for the Bronco's you would have a better reputation. However, much of what he said about Nutt is true.I think Peyton spoke from the heart, but the heart was just a little too bitter for me.

Did Hillis receive a college degree?

I've looked but can't find anything on it.

It could very well be true that the University needs to do a better job of relations with former players. That said, there are 80 players on scholarship every single year. There are thousands of former players. They can't all be employed by the football program. And I don't think Hillis has a drop of coaching experience, so to not even be granted an interview sounds reasonable. Also, he was a running back. We already have an RB coach. Seems open and shut.

He had to prove himself to get that scholarship. He had to prove himself to get to the NFL. He has to prove himself to be a coach in the SEC.

He played for five years, so I would assume he got his degree.

I thought so too,but can't find where he has one.

If not,I doubt he can get a coaching job.

I liked the way he played, but not so sure about his off field actions. But rumors can't be trusted.

He had 7 brain cells before the NFL. I can't imagine the paint of trying to "meet" him. I don't blame pittman a bit.

If this is even a question then it's a problem... the last thing the football program needs is to shun or act any way other than warm towards players who played back when the program was worth something.

I don't see Yurachek or Pittman being less than warm, but it wouldn't surprise me if other SEC schools do a much better job taking care of their athlete alumni.

He also plays a position that's become increasingly niche and underutilized.
