I'd say he was about on Steve Spurrier's level. So, yes, overrated.

Seldom does good football genetics get handed down to the next generation, so Archie having 2 sons as good as they were is very rare at the NFL level. But as good as their arms were, neither had Archie's wheels. His wife must have been mighty slow.

If we are talking a bout the best athlete and not the best player seen live on the field then Matt Jones beats them all.
He doesn't have the wins or the accolades but he was the all time leader in rushing for SEC QBs until Tebow broke it.
He accounted for 66% percent of the offense on a bunch of poorly coached teams and an injured throwing arm from high school.
Went from a potential undrafted QB to a first round draft pick after the NFL combine.
Slept while a tornado was knocking on his front door. He didn't practice during week but was a gamer on Saturdays.
Yet he didn't care for football and just wanted cut up some credit cards and snort cocaine.

No. He and Glen Cannon carried those Ole Miss teams. Though he was on a rival team, he was one of my boyhood idols of that era, along with Pistol Pete, Tommy Casanova, Andy Hamilton, Mike Anderson, Bert Jones and Mike Miley.
I cried like a baby when he beat us in 1968 and 1969, but I still loved watching him play and was happy when the Saints drafted him.

He had no knees in the NFL. In college he was the most exciting player I ever saw.

All these people saying they saw him play and he was great. Ole Miss was lucky in 3 years during the regular season if they were on tv 5 times.
