I appreciate you making the thread though, I really had no idea how good Forbes was. Slipped under the radar for me.

Definitely bungled it. Forbes is a great player. Wonder if his recruitment thread is still around. Think I called him being the best signee in State's class that year.

Yeah, it's cool when one of your players wins the award, but the way they set them up slants the field very hard towards the guys they pick in the preseason, which is frankly ridiculous. The criteria for each award is kind of wonky, too. I remember in 2020 when Will Reichard was literally perfect for the year - did not miss a single kick - and yet did not win the Lou Groza, which ended up going to some guy who, while he had a good season, missed a few kicks along the way. Why? Who knows?

Let's not forget that The Ray Guy Award never went to JK Scott despite leading the country in punting (48 yards per punt) in 2014 and 50% of his punts were inside the 20 his senior year.

Lots of truth and logical thinking in this thread.

I don't care for it.

That's insane. Of all the talented players we have had come through Alabama since Saban has been here, Scott might have been more talented at his position than any of the rest of them were at theirs. That guy was a machine.

Logan Cooke was the same class and didn’t get it either. Although in fairness, Cooke is arguably the best punter in the league and the ‘17 winner is right there in the same conversation.

I think in that situation it was because Reichard only attempted 14 FGs on the season and only had 1 make from 50+ and only 3 from 40-49

The guy who won, José Borregales, was 20/22 but was 7/9 from 40-49 and 2/2 from 50+ and a long of 57

That same year, Cade York was 18/21, with 3/4 from 40-49 and 6/7 from 50+ and a long of 57. he wasn't even a finalist, and wasn't a finalist last year either with almost identical numbers (3/4 from 40-49 and 5/7 from 50+ with a long of 56) yet was an All-American and 1st team All-SEC

It is, admittedly a weird award.

Grant Delpit, for instance, should have probably won it in 2018 but certainly not when he did in 2019

100% agree. Grant had a phenomenal 2018 and really had, at best, an average, injury-riddled season in 2019. He just rode the LSU wave to get the award. Voters obviously had no clue.

After Saturday they should have just presented the Ray Guy award to Kai Kroeger immediately after the game.

Anyone have access to these guys' grades through the year? I have no clue about most of these guys but you cannot look at these stats and have any idea if any of these guys laid an egg (or multiple eggs) during the year. I will always take a guy with zero INTs and 5 PDs while giving up maybe 1 catch for measly yards a game vs a guy with 6 INTs and 20 PDs but gave up 2 game winners and a handful of other big plays.

Forbes will be making a nice NFL paycheck on Sundays next year and beyond. So no worries. All is good.
