Mike Leach experiment

I think we have mixed results here. It’s not often we outplay LSU and lose, but I’m not sure it’s the offense. It’s one predicated on not beating yourself and we have failed miserably there. Turnovers via fumble and special teams plays have been killer. My analysis is that it CAN work, but it’s slow, boring, ball control and when you have a QB that isn’t a run threat, you really have no room for stuff that routinely happens during football games (false starts, dropped passes, dumb plays). The rush 3 drop 8 is the only thing Leach will ever see and this check dow for 5 yards is a snoozefest, but effective given mistake free football…but people frick up…to err is human…but my forgiveness is wearing thin.
I would still say I’m disappointed where we are, but I think the main thing is I’m disappointed with his aloofness and general lack of knowledge in how to manage a game and what is happening on the field. He doesn’t really appear to care if we win or lose. That’s the biggest concern for me. Very disappointed in how disconnected he is from the game. Dude is a space cadet and I’m afraid it’s always going to be that way.

I tried to warn MSU fans after the win over LSU last year that this was going to be the case and got pilloried for it.

Its classic Leach, people will fall for it again this year when he pulls an upset later in the year.

That offense works against like 70% of college football defense. The problem is that SEC defenses are mostly in that 30% range that it won’t work against. The defensive lines here cause too much havoc to just dink and dunk 5 yards at a time for 15 plays without error like you said.

Miss state gave up 10 yards per play in the 2nd half.

Anyone who watched the game knows how deceiving that stat is

Air Raid was created to attack defenses built on stuffing the run, blitzing and man coverage.
All the different spread offenses and RPO offenses have created a whole different defensive style that the Air Raid does not have advantages against.
Leach is too late to have success in the SEC...defenses have evolved too much.

Instant gratification fans always amaze me. No matter how good of a job a school does setting expectations and timelines for new coaches some people just are not capable of understanding it. I’m amazed that if it wasn’t because of bonehead special teams plays we would be undefeated. I’m looking forward to the second half of the season and seeing these players continue to develop. We do have to recruit an offensive line in the off-season.

Outside of the 3 blown coverage passes for 40+ yards State shut LSU down. Your Stat is skewed.
However, 3 blown big plays gets you beat in the SEC.

Leach first 2 seasons everywhere he has gone weren’t good.

Absolutely this.
We have people here that unfamiliar with the Air Raid? Hasn't changed at all since the days of Hal Mumme and and Tim Couch.

Miss State just reverting back to the mean of suckage. It’s just math and science

It didn't exactly set the sec on fire when he and Mumme ran it at Kentucky 25 years ago...

Ya'll were down 18 in the 4th quarter and never had the ball with a chance to tie or take the lead in the second half but "outplayed" LSU and lost. Good call.

And until the 4th quarter, State did nothing the entire game

That's 2 places....no guarantee that stays constant.
And does not factor in that he doesn't evolve yet defenses have.

And in the seasons his teams had the potential to win something of substance, he blows it in the big game of the regular season.
Now he has several big games of the season every year.

Barry Odom killed Mike Leach's career in the SEC. It took 2 games and the league had the blueprint to beat him... And he will never change. Chizick said last year that he has run the exact same offense and plays for 20 years and everyone knows it.
The 3-2-6 defense with great D linemen is the kryponite to that offense.
