USCe, why were they invited to the SEC?

They offer nothing in any way that makes the SEC better except for the easy wins. I understand that you need the USCe’s, MooStates and Mizzou’s for easy wins but MooState is a founding member and Mizzou brought TV markets. Hell Vandy has academics, USCe has nothing.

They offer nothing
They beat bama in 2010, been to the seccg, Final four in basketball, women's basketball championship and 2 nattys in baseball. That's what I can think of off the top of my head.
With the right coaches they can compete with anybody.

They are more southeastern usa than any other state besides Georgia. I guess they thought they were a natural fit at the time.

They were an independent and fit geographically.

Any state that had an annual "running of the gumps" really shouldn't be in any position to be critical of any other state.

-Loyal fanbase
-Football program is Top 20 in revenue and profit
-Greenville, SC and Charlotte, NC (closer to USC than UNC or NC State) are two of the best tv markets for college sports in the country

Because Bobby Bowden didn't want any part of the SEC. So when FSU turned us down, we just went after the low hanging fruit.

Mizzou didn’t bring tv markets. That’s a myth.
People in that state don’t really care about Mizzou athletics and were already watching SEC ball

SEC wanted Florida State, who was a member of the Metro Conference with South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Louisville and Southern Miss at the time. Bobby Bowden thought the Seminoles fit better in the Metro, which wasn't a bad football conference in the late 80s, although they were officially independent but working on a football super conference.
South Carolina said F-that and jumped to the SEC at the first chance. Florida State followed to the ACC and the Metro Conference died.
Fun fact, the Metro Conference was the first conference to propose divisions and a championship game. After they fell apart, the SEC took the idea and ran with it. The Metro was going to invite then independents Penn State and Miami before South Carolina and FSU left.
