I'm still not sure what he was doing on that 3rd down play they converted from their 1 yard line. He looked like he was in position to make a play on the receiver but just stood there. Maybe he didn't see the pass thrown or something?

I did this number after that play on Saturday.

He somehow got caught in between trying to knock the ball away and hit him immediately and ended up just jumping into the air 3 feet from him instead.
It was something

A bad DC will make good defensive players look bad. Period.
There is NO WAY we haven't had a good LB core since Pruitt was here...

He broke on it like he thought he could jump the route but then realized he's not in a Marvel movie and can't cover 20 feet in 0.4 seconds, so he just decided to stop what he was doing and observe instead.

Hellams my gosh. Like, holy shite were they bad.
Hellams missing that tackle around the 5 yard line on 3rd and long from the 1 was a disgrace. That drive gave them life when we could have put them away.

All he had to do was let him catch it and make sure he makes the tackle. Break down, lock him up, and take him down...at least hold on until help gets there. The receiver was five yards short of the first down. It's like his football IQ is shite. Just like the Prayer at Jordan Hare and the dumbass Georgia DB who tried to catch the pass on 4th down instead of just knocking the ball down.

Harris has zero football savvy. You can blame it on Pete but the player ain't it and it didn't start Saturday. He has the size and speed but it ends right there.

Who is directly responsible for the development of the inside linebackers?
It's not a players job to be self-taught a level of proficiency.

Well shite, if it's all on the players to develop themselves then why are we paying these coaches all that money? You should take this brilliant revelation to Byrne. It'll save the athletics department millions.

I used to give him the benefit of the doubt, given he had only started playing football late in high school. And then last year, I started thinking more along the lines of what you are saying - and thought that he and Moses just weren’t cut for LBer from a mental/instinctual standpoint.
But the thing is, we have seen Harris make instinctual, high light plays over the years. He has made plays where he sniffs out a call perfectly and flies in like a heat seeking missile. He’s also fricked up a fair amount, but last year it seemed that he continued to develop the mental part of his game as the year went on.
And here we are now, in the third game of year 3 as a starter for him, and he’s just as lost as ever. I very well could be wrong, but I’m growing more and more convinced that this issue is 100% on Golding. Fundamentals are still lacking and communication is an utter disaster - how this is possible, I do not know. The complete mental implosion by the defense any time we see the opposing offense run something that’s slightly unconventional is almost unbelievable, considering we’ve been watching it for three years straight.

Thanks. I appreciate it. Hadn’t been able to find them on my own.

Perhaps not, but it's reasonable to expect that if Hellams is proficient enough to put on an Alabama uniform, he should already have a high enough football IQ to know that all he has to do is tackle that guy he sees the ball coming to. Doesn't have to make some kind of acrobatic play to knock the ball down. Know where the line for a first down is, know where you and the receiver are on the field.
It's like a receiver who runs a seven-yard out route on 3rd and eight.

HTT was flying around - he made some bad reads and angles, but he was "ok"
I saw on several plays where their OL got to the second level and basically took HTT out of the play (especially during the option plays). I wonder if that was due to what Battle mentioned after the game about "...not filling the gaps like we were supposed to..."

JMO but when Nick Saban watches the play of the ILBers and thought for one moment is was all Pete then he would be given a dress down for the ages. It is the Jimmy and Joes along with being schooled by Dan Mullen and his staff. It is ok to give the other fella credit when they deserve.
Nick had plenty of time to send Pete packing at the end of last season but for some reason he didn't. I will go with Pete is doing a good job as far as Nick Saban is concerned.

The LBs and DBs need to start wrapping up and just tackling guys instead of trying to strip the freaking ball out every time they get a chance at a tackle. They'll make contact with the player after a 2 or 3 yard gain and then spend 3 or 4 more yards trying to strip and it turns into a 7 yard gain.

This is what I found most concerning honestly, I was a little lubed up in the 2nd half but it seemed like we were missing a bunch tackles when we were in position to stop them for a minimal gain
