2019 was the last year of real college football

I’m sure LSU will give it a “woot!” But it’s true. Covid killed any normalcy last year, and with NIL, the transfer rule, and super-conferences, the players are now pros. Anything moving forward should have an asterisk.
College football is dead. Long live college football.

Do these guys even have to go to classes anymore?

With the “academic” centers, the virtual classes (even before covid) and all the bullshite majors these guys are in, I don’t think class is even an issue anymore.

Yes and many of us "old guys" said this, when the media and may others starting this push to pay players. This will be all about which team has the most money to throw at players period.

It's funny that only fans of teams that were dogshit in 2020 seem to have an issue with last season.

Dumb take
College football got better after the BCS ended.
Playoffs and more competition in conferences will make it more fun.
You can go to espn classic if you don’t like it. I’m sure they have some great Jefferson pilot reruns for you.

My point is the playing field will become dominated by current halves and big market areas. Teams like Ole Miss and hell probably LSU won't be able pay out enough to compete. We'll get the handful of top guys, but USCs, Texas, Gumps, and so on with throw around cash and stockpile. Just like they did prior to schollie limits.

2020 was a throwaway season and we all know it. Fact of the matter is, OP is right. College football as we knew it is over. NIL, mega conferences, etc. There won't be a such thing as marquee OOC matchup anymore. We will all just be in one of two conferences like the fricking NFL.

Most haven’t been going for a decade.

You claiming a time period when teams could not win their division and still play for a title was real football?

So the last game in Auburn history was a loss to Minnesota in the Outback Bowl?

Damn. Then our last three games in history were losses to Appalachian State, Texas A&M, and Clemson - by a combined score of 88-24.

It’s fitting, then, that true college football saved it greatest champion for it’s final season.
