None of this matters. What matters is the buyout, which I don't see the numbers on. If it's a rich buyout, you can expect Musselman around for a while. If it's a relatively inexpensive one, Arkansas fans will be sweating every offseason.

That isn't true, the buyout it obviously important but the base salary also holds significance as well unless he is willing to take a pay cut to go elsewhere.

Here you go though
quote:

Musselman will be paid a one-time retention payment of $1.5 million if he is still Arkansas’ coach on April 30, 2026, as long as no major NCAA violations have occurred and the program is not on NCAA probation.

The UA would owe Musselman 70% of his remaining salary if he is fired for convenience during the term.

Musselman would owe the UA a $7.5 million payment if he took another job before the end of the 2021-22 season. That buyout falls to $2 million through the 2023-24 season; $1 million through the 2024-25 season; and $750,000 through the end of the contract, including any seasons earned as extensions past 2025-26.

Other than Eddie Sutton and Ken Hatfield, how many coaches do you remember leaving Arkansas on their own for other jobs?

And Eddie had issues that Kentucky didn't know about. I still appreciate what he did here though, no hard feelings when he left.

We aren't a stepping stone school like some like to think.

IDK, being one of the top 10 highest paid coaches in college basketball seems like it probably matters a little bit.

If he keeps making the tournament each year with some deep runs then he will be fine. But if he pulls a Mike Anderson and misses a few tournament bids then he will probably leave for another job.

But I think he will continue to meet high expectations.

I think both Sutton and Hatfield have expressed that Broyles made them so miserable they felt they had to leave just to maintain their own sanity. Hatfield, after all, left for Clemson without even visiting the campus he was so eager to get away from Broyles.

He's 3rd in the SEC at this point, behind Cal and Barnes.

This guy has well earned his pay. I wasn't worried about him leaving but he is earning this raise.

When he kept signing transfers, I wasn’t worried.
Figured he told HY I am recruiting don’t bother me, talk to my agent until I get these transfers.
The worst thing that could happen to him at that point, is he didn’t sign a contract this year, and nailed a bigger one next year or left us.

So much for the continued perception of life and basketball in the South. BAMA just re-upped the SEC champion coach and he was happy to do it. Mussleman is sending the same message. College basketball is just fine in the deep south. On the other hand, mighty Indiana of the old blueblood era had to settle on a 63-year-old NBA rethread. Hardly the coach magnet many have described.

Just another day in SEC land when perception and reality clash head-on. Remember kids to wear your helmet.

The SEC is here to stay. Going to be a fun next couple of years. Looks like it's going to be a dog fight with Arkansas, Alabama, Auburn, and Kentucky. Throw in Tennessee and LSU (if they don't get the death penalty) and you got one Hell of a conference.

Don't forget Mizzou and Florida. Both fanbases are unhappy with current staff results. I bet both get fired next season. If Martin can get SCAR back on track then the SEC will be rough.

Not gonna happen. We need a new coach and would've got one this year, but South Carolina politics got in the way. Rumor has it Craig Smith, which took the Utah job was eyeing our job. He would've been a hell of a coach. There aren't really any good mid major coaches left for next year. Moser went to OU, Smith to Utah, San Diego States Dutcher will retire their. I guess Wes Miller is the best out there now and I'm not really sold on him.
