Call me negative or whatever, but transfers from SEMO and UAB aren’t exciting. They likely aren’t even SEC caliber.

My anus is prepared for downvotes.

I am with you bro. My only rational is we are swapping schemes and need bodies for what we want to do.

I get that we need depth, so that could be the move. But them as potential starts? Yikes.

Neither are starters. I think that’s the misconception here.

Both are seniors looking for a 1 year opportunity in a larger conference so they have a shot at being noticed. Both are scheme fits and they don’t take up a meaningful roster spot (aka, they don’t count against the 25).

Tons of MEH options for transfers.

I detailed this previously.

We’re getting 2 kinds of transfers: P5 guys that are buried on depth charts and looking for opportunities or G5 guys looking for a 1 year showcase. None of these guys are going to knock your socks off. Those guys don’t transfer to Auburn right now.

I said that a week ago and that about covers the landscape of kids we’re talking to right now.

Where are the P5 starters looking for better teams going? A Ohio State starting wideout just transferred to Alabama

We’re just not there yet. If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a million times. 2021 should carry rock bottom expectations. Almost everything this staff has done points to my theory that that don’t give a frick about it. Hope I’m wrong. They’re going to plan on winning but they’re letting guys walk without a fight. This is an overhaul. They are building a culture that doesn’t cater to everyone.

I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, good or bad. But that’s what I’m seeing

I want to make one thing clear here — I am not pumping sunshine in this thread. I am not throwing a blanket approval on all of these moves.

I’m just explaining what I think is happening. I would be disappointed if we started celebrating UAB and SEMO transfers around here.

I don't think that anyone knows anything about the DB, but to proclaim that Tony Fair isn't SEC caliber is kinda comical. He had offers from Ole Miss and Michigan, he was also singled out by Jim Nagy (former 18 year NFL scout and the current Director of the Senior Bowl) as an NFL talent. He tore through the same Tennessee OL that pushed us up and down the field last season - I guess that means we don't have a single SEC caliber DL on the team?

One of the guys who actually knows a few things on one of the other sites says that per UAB coaches: he is very talented but also lazy/unmotivated. That is concerning, but this is his last shot and like Nick Fairley the hope is that they can get him to give max effort for one season. You can tell from the film that he is very explosive for his size and extremely powerful - what does him having played at UAB have to do with anything? The NFL drafts dozens of small-school players every year...over our "SEC talent" nonetheless LOL.

You can see Jim Nagy's Tweet here:

2023 3* QB Eli Holstein will visit in June. Only a 3* but he’s currently a top 10 QB and #134 in his class.

He’s near the top of Auburn’s 2023 QB board.
Offers from UGA, LSU, A&M, PSU, etc

I’m cool with that, but they better be able to bring in guys that can help the team compete in this league. The Alabama’s, Florida’s, LSU’s and Georgia’s of this world let some of their star players get away with things and it allows them to continue to compete on Saturday.

And if they’ve had enough, they kick the player off and replace them with another blue chip player.

Honestly from his perspective.. I don't even know why he would choose us. He only has 1 year left and with out depth at CB he has a near 0% chance to start unless he's just a truly great player, but if he wants to come be depth for us..

I feel pretty confident in saying the secondary boasts most talent for Auburn. We seem to also have solid depth there.

Bydarrius Knighten is a safety and a redshirt freshman right? So is he a take or a backup if the Kaufman kid does not chose us.

If he is announcing tomorrow then he is a take, and we will take both?

Ill preface this with Im easily confused

I have a feeling that not showing up to practice isn’t on that list

I think we all agree that the staff is going to have to bring in quality talent to compete in the future. I just wouldn’t jump to conclusions right now about if they can. New coaches (especially ones like Harsin) are at a huge recruiting disadvantage right now and it’s going to take time to catch up.

I’m in wait and see mode for right now. I suggest most of you take the same approach. He’s got a few years to get things turned and headed in the right direction. This won’t be an overnight process.

This is how I feel about Finley and a lot of these guys. Most are 1 year deals that give us insurance. Seems like Auburn gets way more out of it than they do.

But

I’m on record as saying I like the hires (outside of Mike Bobo). I’m willing to give them time. The roster Gus Malzahn left behind, especially on offense, is pretty rough.

Bobo with Harsin will run a competent offense, we haven't had one in 5+ years. Bobo is a great recruiter. Remember we haven't had an on campus visit, and our coaches have only met these kids via zoom, phone, and email. Harsin isn't dumb enough to think 3*s will do what he needs done to keep his job. Recruiting will turn around big time, but considering the circumstances we shouldn't expect better than this right now with COVID etc. We need experienced bodies to hold an spot down for a year. That's it. $90 million complex being built will help big time when kids can come see that in person too. I'm more impatient than anyone and even I'm saying give him a little time, and the benefit of the doubt.

Anyone who is bitching please let me know what anyone other HC we may have hired and his staff could do differently under all the circumstances. Would you have rather kept that dipshit Gus another year?
