Just a question about the phil fullmer hate

Why does everyone hate him so much? I'm 34 years old so I wasnt on top of things in the sec when he was coach at Tennessee. I watched but just as a football fan , I wasnt a die hard sec guy back then

Alabama fans probably hate him more than anyone. He was a secret witness to the NCAA against Alabama when Alabama had all of its NCAA troubles. He wasn't a secret witness because he hated cheating, he was a secret witness because he wanted Alabama to be dead and buried. Fulmer himself was a cheater.
It didn't work, and now his beloved Vols are dead and buried while Alabama sits on the college football mountain top.

Most Alabama fans hate him because they think he is the one that turned Alabama in during the Albert Means deal. It wasn't. It was actually Houston Nutt that turned Alabama in to the NCAA.

I may need a Tennessee fan to confirm this, but the way I remember it - Fulmer was an assistant on Johnny Majors staff when Majors had to take a medical leave. Fulmer worked the admin to retain the head coaching position when Majors was ready to return. I never cared for Fulmer after that move...

It was Fulmer that was verified as the NCAA secret witness. NCAA lawyers were upset that his identity was revealed. Johnny Majors was quoted as saying “If you walk with Phil Fulmer make sure to keep him in front so you can watch him.” He is despised for “cause”.

As stated, Fulmer stabbed Coach Majors in the back to get to keep the HC position. It was Majors who insisted that Fulmer get the interim title as they were close friends ...at the time. When Majors was cleared medically to return, Fulmer had already worked the UT administration to where he was named full time HC instead. A major class A prick. His snitching on bama drew so much hate that he would not cross state lines the next year when UT was scheduled to play bama. bama attys had a subpoena waiting for him.

UK was recruiting Dewayne Robertson out of Memphis. Everybody was targeting Memphis in those days as it was a hotbed of talent. UK learned it had underbid in the past. This time the UK bid was successful and we got Dewayne. Unfortunately Phat Phil was getting outbid by others so he squealed on several SEC teams. Phat Phil was just as dirty but he turned tail to get favor with the NCAA.

For me it's not the fact that he was a snitch. It's because he was just as guilty and snitched to cover his own fat arse. I dont have an issue with someone calling out cheating, but when your hands are just as dirty and you do what he did...he and that school deserve every bad thing that happen to them.

That's the point. Claude Bassett and Hal Mumme deserved what they got. But Phat Phil skated because he was a rat.

I feel like a lot of people in this thread don’t understand what the word ‘snitch’ really means.
A snitch is someone who is involved in the malfeasance, but informs on other people for doing the same things they themselves are involved in. It’s exactly what Fuller did.
Being an innocent bystander (or a victim) and testifying against or informing on illegal behavior is not ‘snitching’.

Vol fans hate him because he stuck a knife in Johnny Majors' back while he was hospitalized.
