He's won championships only at places where multiple coaches have won championships, especially Alabama...to me, what Dabo has done at "little ol' Clemson" as he likes to say, is more impressive...

ETA: So, when I Googled “Deer eating “, before I got to “popcorn”, “bird” popped up.
Had no idea deer eating birds is a thing, but there it is.
Killerz.

He's better than average but wouldn't win championships at 95 percent of D1 programs.

Clemson has previous NC.

When he won at LSU only one coach had done it in 1958. 45 years before. So...

Nebraska has championships, could he win there today?
I don’t think so for the same reason he couldn’t win titles at Mich St
But again that’s ANY coach

No one has had the sustained success that he has had in the most competitive era of CFB. 5 titles at UA, a game/play away from winning or competing for others.
A complete program rebuild of two programs. What he did at LSU set conditions for others to follow. What he did at Alabama will do the same.
He is the best recruiter and organizational leader in CFB history... he is also a very good coach. He does get outcoached at times and sometimes outcoaches himself, but on the whole, more goes into being a HC in CFB than what happens on game day.
It is a year round job that requires a ton on energy, vision and strategy to manage the entirety of the program, Student-athletes, and staff.
Yes, he is the best.

Clemson has had the easiest path to a Natty the last 6 years, they play no one in the regular season.
Saban coaches in the toughest conference in the nation, Dabo in the worst.

The funny thing about Clemson is if it wasn’t for Alabama, their program would probably be just an orange South Carolina.
Their most successful coaches are all from Alabama.

All of Clemson previous NC winning coaches played at Bama

i will relate a story
A couple years ago. I think when UF was about to hire Muschamp, local Jax long time sports talk show host Frank Frangie was opining on who he thought should be the next coach at his beloved UF. The discussion went like this " i don't want Dan Mullen....he is the coach of the 5th best team in the west"
I thought...that may be the dumbest thing I have heard in a long time
Miss State was indeed the 5th bestb team in the SEC West but also the 15th best team inv the country. The other 4 teams ahead of MSU were in the top 9.
This year may not reflect it but for that last 10+ yrs the SEC has been a blood bath -especially the west. Two yrs ago Clemson played against a team that wasnt ranked in the ACC championship game

Coach Saban, like Coach Bryant changes with the times and still wins at a high level. Coach Meyer and Coach Carroll could not, the jury is still out on Coach Swinney

I'm confused, conventional wisdom of the sRant says Alabama is nothing without Saban. Now Saban can't win without built in advantages.

When Bear retired the next eight coaches won one championship between them,Gene Stallings.
Saban alone has five.Being coach at Bama doesn't automatically guarantee a natty, but their resources and recruiting possibilities can allow a great coach to sustain great success.
Whether we like him or not, what he's doing is second to none right now and may not be seen again when he leaves.
IMO he is by far the best out there.

Little old Clemson has always recruited well and has been consistently competitive over the years. Georgia actually has a significant rivalry with Clemson.
And I promise you this: Saban could definitely win a NC at little ol' Clemson.

If Saban walked up to Gus and punched him right in his gum sucking mouth, I would take Saban the next minute as AU's coach. He is the GOAT. It is not debatable in my opinion.

Agreed. I’m just hoping we can get a better coach some day. I figure with a more elite HC we could really get something going in Tuscaloosa.

I think he could do it. Saban could probably sign a top 10 recruiting class at Kansas just based on reputation at this point.
