Why didn't the other Pac 12 teams run the Washington defense against Leach?

Arkansas clearly watched a ton of Washington tape before the Moo State game and now everyone has copied that gameplan in the SEC to perfection and effectively killed the classic Air Raid.

It took 2 games for the league to shut Leach down. The Big 12 doesn't care about playing defense so I kind of give them a pass plus Leach's scheme was still relatively new then. But the Pac 12, for 7+ years had no excuse. Chris Peterson and Washington were literally giving everyone else the gameplan and no one else seemed to be able to use it effectively on the regular.

Were these DCs all as dumb as Bo Pelini? Or were they just too stupid to implement what worked for years against his biggest rival.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think a lot of them tried but couldn't execute it well

Washington is one of the more talented teams in the Pac on a yearly basis (they've underachieved lately though), that might be a factor

Because he had a solid OL and his QB would have time to find the open man.

Arkansas and Kentucky are both good defensive teams, but on paper they have virtually the same amount of talent, or even slight less, than Moo State.

At Wazzu, he was probably the close to the worst recruiter in the league, yet still won a lot there. I can see the Washington talent gap angle, but he also beat the likes of USC a lot, who had vastly more talent than basically anyone in the league. It doesn't add up.

Personnel

Been a lot of evolution in defenses in the last couple years. At this time most teams have the personnel and ability to run these schemes now.

SEC has had the ability for longer hence why no SEC teams would hire him.

Oregon did and lost 4 of the last 5. Leach doesn't have the offensive line he needs at State to execute his air raid

No one else had the linebackers that could do it. Everyone in the SEC does.

I mean... he did average more than 5 losses a year at Wazzou.

Some truly terrible ones early on, one break out 11-2 year, a couple of solid 9 wins, and a pair of 6-7 seasons.

If a LB can cover your WR in zone, you have some slow arse WRs

Which is also a problem, State doesn't have speed at WR to take the top off of defenses. But it starts up front

at Wazzou.

Found the problem. How were they before Leach? Same with TT??

Im actually pretty interested to watch Wazzou this year if they play. They hired a Run & Shoot guy

They have maybe one SEC caliber receiver now. If he can hold together this recruiting class, that will change soon

Washington has had 7 DBs and 5 LBs drafted since 2015. Six of their DBs were drafted in the first two rounds.

That’s a lot more talent on the back end than most teams, especially the Pac12.

Better question is how did LSU not stop it?

What a joke.

Budda Baker and Byron Murphy last night for the Cards went there. They have underachieved the last couple years since they made that playoff game vs Bama; lots of close losses.
