Would it? Liberals are supposed to be pro paying players. It’d look pretty bad for Dem politicians to not change a law standing in the way of progress. I mean the current crop are probably dumb enough to refuse to change it, but they are easily replaceable.
Not to mention that private donations to players by boosters likely bypass Title IX anyways.

This is a fair take, but modern college football is just not what you are describing.
Yes and that's the problem, imo.

Most LSU and Bama fans would not follow the sport you are describing.
Not that I care much, but they followed the sport when it was like that, so why wouldn't they now?

Its NOT low cost.
It’s relatively low cost.
I’d guess 100k a year is generous, but we can go with that.
That’s a fricking low arse salary considering the TV revenue those guys pull in. People in other fields get paid 100k salaries and they generate much less revenue for their respective companies.
Not even that, random arse boosters are willing to buy them out of pocket and can’t even do that.

Bryant Denny and Tiger Stadium were nowhere neat the size they are now back when the game was truly amateur.
The TV viewership was also much, much lower.

All those prices are inflated and they are worth more than the actual per person operating costs of dorms, shitty cafeteria food, etc.
Since when do football players eat shitty cafeteria food?
You struggle in every thread, don’t you?

All TV viewership was.
People also didn't have as much disposable income as they do now.

Yeah you tell these SEC rant posters! This thread will make them rethink their stance next time

Their food is catered by whatever company the university has a contract with. The cost of providing food to the athletes is much less than you and I have to pay to buy food at the grocery store.

Why? I am pretty sure pro sports are on the chopping block as we speak for this year. Paying them is of no consequence at this point

It won’t, but it’s fun playing with them.
It’ll be a good bump when paying players becomes a thing.

You’re asking a state fan

NBA and NHL is fine because they are enforcing quarantine/not traveling.

I wish they would do away with athletic scholarships altogether.
That is the only reasonable response to the ones trying to bend over the institutions furnishing their scholarships with demands. Fanbases are just gonna have to take the bitter pill of not landing talented but coddled players

That doesn’t matter! What they are saying is Covid has been linked to long term Heart problems! They are rethinking their stance right now

Relative to what was standard. Most games didn’t even get televised. It’s a huge industry now that didn’t exist.

Eh, that has varied, and let’s be real - a lot of rabid SEC fans don’t exactly have all that much disposable income. I have a feeling Mr. Updyke had to scrounge up some cash to pay for his tree poison.

But this goes back to the problem. If large stadiums don't fill up, then so be it. Filling up stadiums shouldn't be the goal. College sports shouldn't be a business.
Besides, real fans will continue going to games and watching them on TV. Only the socialites will care that there are less spotlights and fireworks. Win/win, imo.

No and the fact you believe paying them changes any of this proves how out of touch you are.

I never said that, but it increases the possibilities of workarounds (see pro leagues).

Gonna be fun bumping this when the stupid amateur status gets removed.

I’m not disagreeing with you. I’m only pointing out that not everyone sees it this way - even if they don’t realize it.
