It would be a lot easier to have a path forward if we could call student athletes “employees”
Great question, but my preference is that we give the Revenue Athletes a full scholly plus an enhanced stipend for Tax Reasons and for Labor Law and for Labor Relations reasons

Employee triggers a lot of legal-ese that would cause headaches, the current system is already set up for full schollies plus larger Stipends

That way they are required to follow workplace conduct rules, which include zero politics, protesting, inflammatory things on clothing. Plus we can tax their income. Absolutely do it OP.

Hey a-hole ALL WORKPLACES don't have the same rules, don't project your life at your shitty Job onto these talented Athletes that have more leverage than envious assholes like you

Other than paying taxes, all the other rules are flexible as hell

But this goes back to the problem. If large stadiums don't fill up, then so be it. Filling up stadiums shouldn't be the goal. College sports shouldn't be a business.

Besides, real fans will continue going to games and watching them on TV. Only the socialites will care that there are less spotlights and fireworks. Win/win, imo.

What a crock of dung

When Saban & Dabo & Harbaugh get Contracts that pay $8 million to $9 Million per year, not a friggin' word about College Sports shouldn't be a business, but as soon as the Players ask for a fair piece of the Money they generated in unison with the Coaches, ONLY THEN , should College Sports not be a business

Strange coincidence or outright hypocrisy, take your pick

But it isn't.

I’d guess 100k a year is generous, but we can go with that.

Are these guys gonna have to enrolled in class? So after federal and state taxes your probably looking at around a take home of about 65 to 70k. Gotta pay tuition, healthcare, room and board, books etc. They'd be better off with a bigger, tax free stipend.

Bottom line, you can't make these guys employees and you have to give the same opportunity to EVERY athlete...no matter the sport.Title IX doesn't care about which sport makes money

I think it needs to be revised.
I’m honestly fine with football itself being given an exception.

It’s the only sport that requires players go through the college sport to get to the pro league.

Their food is catered by whatever company the university has a contract with. The cost of providing food to the athletes is much less than you and I have to pay to buy food at the grocery store.

To that other poster asking about players food, it might not be shitty cafeteria food, but it is low budget Aramark Food Services Food, they have the cafeteria contract at hundreds of Colleges around the Country

The food that Athletes get is a hiccup better than the crap the regular students eat, but they get unlimited amounts of the highly mediocre Aramark Food Services, contract quality food

No way is it premium food specially prepared by award winning chefs and worth $26.60 per meal like the Athl Dept marketing materials would lead you to believe

Maybe at Georgia Tech

quote:

LSU began to develop ideas for a nutrition center seven years ago. The school wanted to help its athletes by providing healthy, well-made meals, but it struggled to find a location near LSU’s athletic facilities.

On Wednesday, LSU finally unveiled its nutrition center. School officials cut a ceremonial ribbon in front of the new building, and LSU gave tours of the space, which had cost $28 million in private donations from the Tiger Athletic Foundation.

Chef Michael Johnson took over as executive chef four months ago. He had attended culinary school, gotten married and started a family over 12 years in Baton Rouge. He moved away, eventually working with the Seahawks.

Neither of these things preclude it from being low cost Aramark food.

This is standard at all universities.

McDonalds’ executive chef is probably very well paid and respected in the industry, but no one would argue that McD’s’ ingredients are high cost.

Being a good chef, especially in a corporate setting, is about doing as much as you can with as little as possible.

The legal issue with CFB and Title-IX us that there is no Female equivalent sport that uses 85 schollies, so FB should be legally exempt from Title-IX calculations

For example

Baseball 11.7 schollies
Softball 11.7 schollies

MBB ------13 Schollies
WBB ------13 Schollies

CFB ------85 Schollies
Women ----- no sport currently exist since women don't play women's only FB in HS and there aren't enough players to have women's FB on the College Level

Title-IX should only be enforced where there is an equivalent Women's Sport that way you can give them the same exact # of schollies

OR....

You could simply give the Revenue Athletes larger Stipends and leave everything else the way it is

Pay them 100k a year and then bill them for all the services they receive at market rates.

Are you happy now? They got paid.

Its like when people complain that prisoners only make however many cents per hour.

Just pay them 50k a year and then bill them for all the services they receive at market rates.

At least we dont have to finally fricking hear about this not being paid bullshite
