The preseason magazines I’ve read and interviews I’ve heard on Sirius 84 all have Florida winning the East. I’m not saying that is crazy to think this. Florida is very good and certainly capable of winning the East.My question is this. If Georgia was playing Arkansas and not Alabama, would this still be the prevailing thought? When I look at the rosters from top to bottom I think Georgia has the advantage. Qb advantage to Florida. No doubt that is a big deal to have that advantage. Other than Wr which is a toss up, every other position group favors Uga. Secondary is close but Georgia has lots of experience players returning there. How many of you simply feel Florida is better than Georgia? Again, Florida is damn good. Just don’t think their roster is there yet. Getting close, but not yet.

I don't see it myself. But controversy does bring in clicks and traffic. That's not to say they aren't capable of winning, and you do make a good point of Arkansas vs. Alabama.

I think they'd still pick UF. A lot of people believe in Dan Mullens ability to game plan and coach up players and think this is his best team yet.

They're taking a contrarian position because the drama drives page views.

In the Athlon thread yesterday, I believe, it was pointed out that the critics voted every position group to Georgia yet chose Florida to win the East.

They also picked Mullen as Coach of the Year.

So I guess folks are assuming that the talent gap is narrow enough, Georgia plays Alabama, and Mullen is the better coach?

Position groups don't play against each other. Florida has a very strong returning QB, but they have questions on both lines. Georgia does not have a returning QB. That's a very big question mark

I think it's a toss-up.

Georgia has the advantage in defensive talent and defensive coaching. Florida has the advantage at continuity at QB and offensive coaching, especially with the shutdown and missed Spring.

Your response made me think of something. How much pressure is Mullen under to beat Georgia. He hasn’t seemed to be at his play calling best in games vs Georgia. I know it was the first drive of the game last year but that 4th and 1 call was the biggest statement call of the game. To pass and run set the tone of that game. Does he out think himself too much on critical plays? Does he still think he has to be more creative because he did more with less at State. Can he trust his players abilities when it matters most? Not saying this is the case, just a thought.

Our Position group will play your starters and we will rotate fresh guys in to make you quit.

That is what we do and how we recruit.

Someone in our to 4 deep who doesn't see the field is a practice squad player until they improve.

The media loves Dan Mullen for some reason...but I don't think they are there yet

True statement about position groups. I did give Florida the advantage at Qb, which I said is a great advantage to have.

Sorry. I went with the alphabet order. Plus I was harnessing my inner Vince Dooley. Always the underdog

I think he's under tremendous pressure from the fan base if you read their high traffic boards. They say they have to win this year. If he doesn't it could open the flood gates like Spurrier did to us. Roster and schedule wise, this is his best shot for a few years.

And yes, he tends to out think himself in big games.

I don't think so. They do get the easier draw from the SEC-W this year.

Last year we had it easier, so it all evens out.

I think Florida's game vs. LSU might ultimately decide the East, since a loss to LSU would give UGA and Florida 2 SEC losses (UGA losing to Alabama and slipping up against someone else but not in Jacksonville).

We'll see...

Interestingly, Florida fans are much more restrained about this game than the sports media and the other posters on this board.

The media is picking UF because it drives clicks and creates more debate. The reality is that both teams will be very good and talented and this is as much of a 50/50 game as you will find. It might come down to who is healthier.

Yeah, but Fromm sucked tho.

Certainly not, "elite" as he has described himself.

You think UGA loses to someone not named Bama or Florida?

The issue being ignored in all of this Florida/Georgia discussion is how well the schedule sets up for UF this season.

Georgia could be a tad better and UF could still win the division. I'm not admitting that's true, but UGA winning the WLOCP and Florida winning the East anyway is a possibility that's being ignored here

Yeah. Maybe the barn, maybe KY, maybe SCAR.
- Barn: JHS voodoo. Ghost of Pat Dye may play a factor.
- KY: A good team that we play at their place as the last SEC game.
- SCAR: Trap game after WLCOP at their place. Cocks play Vandy the week before. Muschamp seems like he has one surprise up his sleeve each season.

Not UTK, Vandy, or Mizzou though.
