Am I overreacting?

My wife(no pics) and 4 year old daughter have mostly sheltered in place the last month. Other than grocery pickup and occasional take out, we haven’t been to anyone’s house to hang out or go much of anywhere. Several friends and people in my family and hers have insinuated we are taking this way too seriously and are making jokes and backhanded comments about us staying home. Long post I know but I don’t know why I am the bad guy for protecting my wife and daughter. Maybe I should loosen up and go more places?

Nah, just enjoy spending time with your family

Sounds like y'all are doing fine. I haven't been anywhere but visiting my parents once a week, grocery twice, and I did contactless carryout on a pizza once in the last four weeks.

Yes
being away from society and going full on with hand sanitizer and masks lowers your immune system
taking in viruses and defeating them w/our immune system is science

No. You’re doing well exactly what is expected of you and what most people are doing.
The protestors and deniers are a vocal minority.

If you are in or near a hotspot you are doing right. Otherwise why are you doing it?

Have you ever watched The Shining?

Since Arkansas does not have a shelter in place order right now-it’s a personal choice you’d be making. Obviously with family and likely friends,
there would likely be few if any there observing social distancing recommendations or wearing a mask; only you & the wife can decide if you’re comfortable with that.

To each his own during these strange times.

Not overreacting.
However, we need to remember that both the "Do nothing" curve and the "Flattened" curve have the same number of infections under each curve. The point of flattening the curve was to buy time to prepare and to not overwhelm the system, not to prevent everyone from getting the virus.
Don't hold your breath for a vaccine, either. We have been working on coronavirus vaccines for DECADES. If the main mechanism that kills people with CV19 is overreaction of the immune system, a vaccine will be useless.
We are incredibly fortunate that this is a very mild pandemic, with new serology studies showing 99%+ defeating this with mild symptoms. If ebola was as contagious as SARS-cov-2, that would be horrific.

your daughter is in zero danger
are you or your wife high risk?
keeping your distance, keeping your hands off your face & practicing common sense should be adequate for most people that are not living in "hot spots"
good luck to you and your family

Idk have you tried asking people you don’t know on the internet? That’s always my first move when it comes to the well-being of my family

You aren't alone.Though we aren't on shutdown, people I see out there are wearing masks and keeping their distance. Not all are wearing masks, but many are.
There's nothing wrong with having good common sense. It's missing in many.
