The reality seems to be that your chances of catching it from normal everyday interactions using any semblance of hygiene are very low unless you are in some sort of high risk hot-spot or are immune compromised. If you do catch it, the chances that you will require hospitalization are correspondingly low. If you somehow do require hospitalization and you are 65 or below with a healthy immune system and no glaring comorbidity, your chance of dying from it is once again miniscule.

Obviously if you are in the high risk population of elderly folks already in poor health or have immune deficiencies you need to be super careful. Otherwise don't let this ruin your life. TIFWIW, hope you and yours remain happy and healthy!

Thanks! My job just informed me today that we are gonna remain closed until June 1st. I’m still getting paid so I’m definitely not complaining but cabin fever is setting in fiercely.

I had a video conference today to start a project in your state. I'm going to find you and give you a hug. Are you abiding by the giving warnings, yes. Is that a good thing, probably. Ever had the flu? Similar in morbidity rates.

I'm not making light on the situation and feel very fortunate that my occupation is considered essential but man, let's get moving again. The best thing we can do is get out, pump money into the economy, greet people and pass around the common cold.

Virus and bacterial will always be around, will always take lives. The strong survive, it's nature.

Long post I know but I don’t know why I am the bad guy for protecting my wife and daughter. Maybe I should loosen up and go more places?

yes

you have a 99.5% or better chance of survival if you get the Kung Flu

your kids have a 99.99% chance of survival

getting the kids out with people that you know don't have the Red Chinese Bat Virus is good for their mental health

I went to Vegas with a group of 200 in mid January

we had 2 dozen get sick

56 yr old was in hospital for 5 days with respiratory issues

26 yr had a heart attack

I got real sick, wife says worst she's ever seen me

she made me go to the doctor after a week (in B4 UR a cuck if UR wife makes U do shite)

I got better after 3 weeks, z pac made me feel better, but I got a little worse when pills ran out, another week and I was back to normal

she also gave me our son's inhaler, I was having trouble breathing and had a really bad dry and deep cough

also, my wife has a friend from college that is now in her 2nd clinical study at UAB

1st study she fully recovered

this study is on her blood for vaccines

I will get tested as soon as I figure out where, I'd like to see if I have it in my system

hydrochloriquin works if you get it quick enough

we will also know in a few weeks whether the Swedes are right or not

and we should all be pulling for the experiment in GA to go well

I was in Houston second week of December. Came home and had a respiratory infection. Wasn't bronchitis or Pneumonia but it sucked for 10 days. Maybe I had something too. Be safe and take care!

Hate to tell you, but your friends are dicks.

You do what you feel is best. It's like banging a $5 hooker. Let your friend bang her without a condom. Maybe he catches something. Maybe he doesn't. You're just decreasing the chances you catch anything when you bang her. Someone wants to make backhanded comments about that, they're just idiots.

My parents and in-laws are giving us a lot of grief for not letting them see our 10 week old. It sucks for everyone, but we aren’t chancing him catching this

10 week old? Shoot I wouldn’t go out until 2021 if we had a baby.

100% respect your decision and your right to handle your family and their safety as you see fit

personally, I agree with your parents and in-laws; but again, that decision is yours and your wife's - period

the funny thing is that your decision likely benefits them more than it does your baby

The initial reports about kids being in the clear from this virus has only been proven partially correct. Young children, infants in particular, are a high-risk group just like the elderly. A study came out showing that infants under 1 year have about a 12% chance of requiring hospitalization and breathing assistance. Kids 1-4 were about 7-8% hospitalization rate if I recall correctly.

A 12% chance of seeing my infant daughter struggle to breath is not a chance I'm willing to take if I can help it.

If other feel differently that's up to them to evaluate their family's risk factors, but it takes a real dick to actively disparage anyone else for doing what think is right to take care of their family right now. If you know people like that, they aren't worth listening to.

I have seen nothing that shows that children are in danger

could you link this study?

also, how am I disparaging anyone?

why do you feel that my decision to voice my opinion is disparaging?

OP asked if anyone e thought he was overreacting, my answer is yes

I'd like to see the study you are referring to, maybe it changes my mind...
