re: My friend's cousins are stranded in Kabul

90% of missionaries just don't want a real job and like living abroad with no accountability. If I was running Kabul Airport I'd have them at the back of the line.

Just say no

Spot on.
Regular ANA were faced with the choice of fighting till they ran out of supplies and were killed or just giving up.
Not many of us would choose option A.

That may be, but it's also a common one. High-performing officer consistently lands on the wrong end of senior rater profile block checks but gets SELCON anyway because of the writeups.
Scott McKean looked me in the eye when I was on his Division Staff and told me if I had been his Brigade S6, I would have been promoted PZ and preparing for CSL. I thanked him for the sentiment and said that I was going to focus on making his HQ successful while I was there.
We called McKean America's Platoon Leader when we were in Korea.

Check out Bin Laden's relatives being flown out of the U.S. and you'll have your answer.

Sadly you are probably right
Half the people outraged today probably didn't know we still had troops there and a quarter probably couldn't find Afghanistan on a map.

No dice boss. We just left American troops to fend for themselves as terrorists deposed the regime and military we spent 20 years setting up. Pudding will pay for this for the rest of his life, and the American people are waking up to the fact the Satan Pelosi has been in charge the whole time and destroyed the country they love. The Terrorist Party is finally coming to an end.
I hope you are right but I'm skeptical.

Not a veteran, but a guy I knew from high school was killed in a firefight in Afghanistan in 2009. We weren’t exceptionally close, but he was a super nice, laid-back dude. There’s even a memorial to him in the middle of a roundabout in Broussard.
I couldn’t stop thinking about him the last few days and how senseless his death seemed then and even moreso now.
It's especially hard today thinking back on all those losses and wondering what was the point. RIP to your friend.

Nobody cared about it for the last 15 years and with football kicking off the general public will move on. :usa:

Did three tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, saw first hand how the ORA / TRA reports were bullshite and we threw money at problems one year at a time so Battalion Command and up could have successful metrics.
Don't even get me started on contractors.
Betrayed? In 2007 I felt betrayed once I knew what the game was. Made the decision to stay in and do the best I could to help my Soldiers navigate the insane bureaucracy and make my corner of the Army a little better.
As shitty as watching all this goes down is, there is also a sense of validation because now the whole world gets to see what those of us on the ground knew all along.
Check the tapes, every GO that said we were turning the corner and making progress, every BN and BDE commander that hyped up their one year as an amazing success, and every politician that believed what they wanted to believe about the wars owns this.

They are the official government of Afghanistan, chosen by the Afghanistan people.
re: Can you give me a quick run down on Afghanistan/Taliban situation?
Posted by TopFlightSecurity on 8/15/21 at 4:16 pm
Generals and career minded officers and diplomats lied about progress last decade.
Nobody wanted to be one to end it since this was predictable, we finally did end it and Taliban took over in a week instead of the anticipated 2- 3 months.

The US Generals are hoping left and right keep arguing over which president is responsible.

Time for our military to break away from the losers in Washington running them. All the men and women that gave their lives for literally nothing. And the billions of dollars spent. Our men should tell the 5 stars to pound sand.
Military leadership own this own too. 20 years of lying about progress on the ground.
re: Anybody regret selling a property instead of keeping it for a rental?
Posted by TopFlightSecurity on 8/9/21 at 3:32 pm
Sold my house in central Texas in 2017. Zero regrets, had rented it out a couple years and was a huge pain in the arse. Unless you really need the money it's not worth the hit to peace of mind.
re: What percentage of people cheat on their partners?

Depends on career field. Medical field probably 65-70%, regular jobs less. Teachers who knows.
re: Well my wife’s nursing career after 14 years is coming to end….no pics

If she's a nurse she's been getting the jab for 14 years for sure.
re: NIL - are there rules that would prevent these events from happening?
Posted by TopFlightSecurity on 8/4/21 at 7:43 am
Chad Morris was probably the worst coach in college football history and made $14 million or so to get fired.
But yeah players are amateurs and shouldn't make any money off the billion dollar industry they generate. I love the NIL, it's the most American thing that's happened in 2021. :usa: :usa:

re: Living in Tuscaloosa, AL and Waco, TX

I spent a lot of time in Waco. It's nothing special and has high property taxes.
Hour and a half or so to DFW or Austin for stuff to do but traffic is horrible going to either. Some good local restaurants and Hill Country isn't too far if you like camping and such.
