Great recruiter, but poor OC.
The guy’s playbook, route tree/combinations, game planning, in-game adjustments, and general play calling were remedial and pedestrian.
We grossly underachieved on offense last year considering the talent we had. And it wasn’t just our receivers and OL’s fault.
It’s too bad Coley isn’t staying just to watch Monken and Faulkner work. Hopefully he has someone worth a damn at aTm to study and learn from.

CKS is putting out a top 5 program...I’m not sure UGA will keep many coaches for more than a couple years if he keeps up this pace.
Look at what Saban goes through every coupe years. We should look at coordinators like good players. Here for three years and then bring on the next.

Honestly surprised to see the change at OC and to see Coley leave. I guess Kirby getting defensive about the offense in press conferences was smoke and mirrors to hide what was going on behind closed doors. I got the feeling he and Coley were close and he would give him another year given the new receiving corps.

It all kinda makes sense with all the players leaving. Maybe Kirby told them there would be changes to go to the NFL or come back and compete for your job.

Why does this surprise anyone Do you think
Kirby lives in a vacuum or is completely oblivious to whats going on?
Hell,he tried to change the offense starting with the UF game.

Could be what he meant by "disease".

If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
He was just plain bad as an OC. When teams run tight man defense multiple games in a row and you can't adjust to something that simple, you're in over your head.
We had an offense littered with 5 star talent last season and couldn't move the ball. Couldn't run the ball. Couldn't pass the ball. Couldn't get first downs.
Kirby isn't blind.

mmmmStupid.
The woefully depleted WR Corp made Coley look worse than he actually was. He is a good position coach and great recruiter. We know that Kirby understood this since he was given the opportunity to stay. But there is no shame in him moving on at all.
Show some class why don’t you,

How in the world did we average 28 PPG,400
ypg and over 5 ypc?

If you really think Kirby replaced and let walk one of his close friends and one of the best recruiters in the country just because some of our receivers had bad hands and were seemingly poor route runners, then you need to get out more and stop listening to whomever sold you that short-sighted myopic excuse.
Kirby didn’t turn Coley into some patsy, and it’s insulting to indirectly infer that he did. The truth is there’s a long list of deficiencies that Coley has with regards to his playbook, route combinations, play design, ability to read and decipher defenses on the go, and general play calling decision making. And some of those things exacerbated the weaknesses in our receiver corps, our OL, and in Fromm.
You want your OC capable of playing to players strengths and minimizing weaknesses, not the other way around. And being obnoxiously predictable, having pedestrian and non-intuitive plays and route combinations, and telegraphing tendencies because of absurdly repetitive calls with near identical personnel groupings, is precisely how you make life significantly harder for our receivers, OL, and QB, and exacerbate their weaknesses rather than their strengths.
Kirby clearly saw this. Many professional pundits saw this. Many fans saw this. You should realize you’re in the minority and wonder how you got there rather than insulting Kirby and others and telling them to show some class. Just sayin.

Some are laying too much blame on the players and making short-sighted excuses for Coley.
Everyone knows Coley is one of the best recruiters in the country, and was also a close friend of Kirby. So it’s insulting to Kirby to indirectly suggest he just backstabbed his close pal, made him a patsy, and hurt the school just to save face.
Or, maybe Kirby saw and knows what many people saw and have learned, and he loves this school and wants what’s best for it and the team so much that he was willing to set aside loyalty to a friend and great recruiter and make the hard decision to get rid of what was inferior and caused the underachievement and try to find a solution.
I don’t think Kirby’s an evil prick that would backstab and patsy a guy to save face, so I’m going with the latter. Especially considering it really wasn’t too hard to see Coley’s deficiencies, too.

Half of the coaches in America come off as a close friend of Kirby. Kirby is bred that way.

Coach Esminger coached here when I was a GA. Good dude, but he has been fired numerous times. He fell into the right combination of talent and assistants this year. Wanna bet they are not nearly as good next year on offense?
I was not a huge fan of this year’s offense, but the 5 stars were not playing like 5 stars. Lots of players losing individual battles.

People can't seem to comprehend that had the players executed to the level of lsus offense, we would all be saying Coley is an offensive genius.
The plays are largely irrelevant if the team executed them to near 100%. Don't miss block, don't run the wrong route, catch the ball, throw the ball right, don't fumble, pick up the blitz, etc...

Not true. Guy was a total shite play caller. Couldn’t read a defense to save his life.

We didn't play horrible ... just were inconsistent. I didn’t like some of our pass routes but those could also have been bad coverage reads by receivers. Someone mentioned passing tree. Those days are gone. You use them for basics, but you run your routes based on coverages in many, many cases. When i saw receivers standing still after running a curl in man coverage, it made me wonder if it was scheme or bad reads/comprehension. There were a lot of breakdowns and in the end, it falls on the coach.
You can watch LSU games this year and see Burrows throw many wonderful passes. You can also see him throw some up and have his receivers win battles. They won a lot of their battles. These extended drives and put more pressure on the defense. We just were not winning these battles at receiver. Same on the Oline. Guys were getting beat. Guys going pro this year. Scheme could have something to do with it, but you still have to win your battle each play. We got beat on the dive a lot and we were not running anything fancy. Defenses were stunting, but you still need to make your reads and win battles.
I like that we are moving to a more pro type offense and having a fresh start on offense. Still, we have to win our battles each play. Also, one day, Coley will fall into a situation like Coach Esminger did this year... and y’all will be singing his praises... or at least people like you will....

This. Coley is like Goff. Promoted to his level of incompetence. You can’t blame either. They both did the best job they could.

No one liked Goff other than Coach Dooley and a few of the right $$$ people. Coach Haffner should have gotten that job. The difference here is Goff was a position coach and jumped the OC to become HC. Players didn’t care for him. Coley is well liked and one day will be a OC or HC in a Natty game.

If you cant understand that our offense would have had more success with Holloman and a healthy Cager the you're a bigger buffoon than I thought.
Now you're just making stuff up. Where did I insult Kirby? The fact is I am excited about the changes Kirby has made. But there's just no sense at all in piling on Coley. He's in the rear view mirror at this point. It seems that people like you do this to attempt to prove how smart you think you are.
