University of Alabama-associated gear increasingly going on clearance racks at the supermarkets. Can anyone explain why this is?

As an Auburn fan....Maybe because you live in Alabama. The one sport of football for the state is ending for the year. You would see some Auburn gear if the stores thought Auburn was marketable in the first place.

Yeah; where is the Auburn gear? Surely cleared out or just MIA. And who the hell cares?

I’m sure you ‘casually’ noticed, i.e., deliberately looked through the Bama team gear at Walmart and checked the price tags.

Yeah but isn’t this that time of the year where the Bama gear sales are supposed to skyrocket? Yet it’s apparently not. Thus the reason it’s all being marked down for clearance.

Sports gear going on clearance is the canary in the coal mine of declining sports dynasties

Given all the Bama dickriding Auburn fans have done the last decade, maybe you should load up.
