I think that’s where you see pushback from Alabama fans on Tua not going through progressions.

He LOOKS like an NFL QB scanning the field. I’m not sure where the disconnect between what he’s physically doing and his stats comes from(if that’s what his stats are showing).

Agree - last year he looked first read and then if it wasn't there he tended to go off into Johnny Manziel land of running around and making crazy throws - and it worked a lot of the time! But it was not sustainable.

This year, when that first read isn't there he stays in the pocket, shifts his feet and eyes and has done a really good job of hitting his check down or 2nd option. He's done a GREAT job of throwing deadly accurate check down throws to running backs in stride.

He actually did the whole twirl and whirl thing against Tennessee on that interception he threw near the goal-line and I remember thinking "shite, I haven't seen him do that in a really, really long time".

possibly he just doesn't do it as much in practice or games and so his feel is worse for it?

This would be my guess. Last year, he was just slinging it deep every other throw with success. It bit Bama in the arse when Clemson took that away. This year, it seems to be more methodical moving down the field, without all of the home run balls.

Alabama's receivers are better than LSU's at getting open earlier in routes

This. Although I like our guys better when it comes to contested catches down the field.

Yea, I read the SI article about LSU's receivers and the NFL scout comparing them seemed dead on to me.

"Alabama has 3 guys that have a similar, elite skillset and LSU's 3 guys are kind of all different"

Yep.......would be cool if he could remember HOW to do the home run ball thing too

Are you really trying to argue that LSU hasn’t played against any good defenses?

They've played one in Auburn, that's about all I can see. Florida has an ok defense and Texas is terrible.

Why would changing to shorter passes make ones deep ball accuracy go down?

Possibly because he's not practicing as many deep shots down field. He proved last year that he could hit the deep ball and hit it well. And he's been running the offense we have this year to perfection, so I'm not mad at all.

I can’t speak for everyone who throws shite..

But when you practice and practice and practice throwing on a certain plane and your eyes are always fixated around it and your feet and steps into your throws are on that correct timing and length and your brain sees and feels that plane, distance, and release point it can be a bitch to then toss the shite a long distance with accuracy.

Your feel gets screwed up enough to be less accurate.

I have no idea if that’s what’s happening.

Bo freaking Nix is better than SlanTuna!

To be fair, that's probably because when one receiver isn't open Nix just intentionally grounds it...

He doesn't make the "reads" yall think he does and 2/3 of his yards are YAC.

Why do you think it's so easy to plug Mac Jones in there? If you say "Arkansas", I'll say "Duke, NMSU, Tennessee, Ole Miss, etc."

Same thing as last year. Tua played against nothing but cupcakes last year until the LSU game, had record numbers in those 8 games - shocker. Tua has proven he is an average (sometimes less than average) QB against top 20 defenses.

Your receivers are a lot better than Tua and they make him look a lot better than he is.

Tua is so bad, it's amazing that he set the alltime ncaa record last season for pass efficiency, even in spite of playing injured half the season.

I know 1 thing, if the 1st read is open I want a QB who can deliver the ball on target.

I've watched way too many games where the receiver was open but the throw was off target.

If you look for deficiencies in qb's or players in general you can find faults.

Is your primary receiver “always going to be open” against LSU?
