I was surprised by Mac Jones being the backup. Will the younger Tagovailoa ever be a starter with Bryce Young coming in next year?

Saving the redshirt, from what I’d guess. He came in the first couple games during garbage time. He’s probably emergency only here on out.

Taulia is the second best QB on our roster, and actually a total badass. I actually like our chances with Taulia almost as much as with Tua.
Saban doesn’t do well with QB choices

He’s clueless when it comes to QBs, but we should be fine as long as he doesn’t pick Mac Jones next year

In 2004, it was awful watching Saban start Marcus Randall at QB, but even worse than that was looking at LSU’s sidelines that year and seeing Jamarcus Russell towering over everyone with a towel around his neck.

Just think of how we felt watching an anemic offense lose the Iron Bowl with Tua sitting on the bench.

Saban said they are going to play him as much as possible so they can advance his development

I think people are underestimating Mac Jones. Taulia isn't leaps and bounds better than him in talent. Neither of these guys are Tua, but Mac can be solid, and has more experience than the true freshman, Taulia. I don't know who will be the starter when Tua leaves, but it isn't a foregone conclusion that it won't be Mac Jones.

Probably about similar to Leonard and Lanard.

Mack won't run much. Taulia is much more mobile than Mack and Tua.

Mack will do fine.

One of them is as close as you can get.

Based on what, exactly?

We obviously have no clue - but according to talent evaluators Young is on another level than either of our freshmen this year. However, you never know until they all get out there.

I suppose, if you think Michael Jordan's brother, Larry, is as close as you can get to MJ.

Taulia may be great, but I think people are putting way too much stock in him being Tua's brother. From what I saw of him in highschool, he's a very different player. I didn't see anything that convinced me he'd be the Second Coming.

I didn't watch him much in high school, but in the spring game, he absolutely indicated that his game is VERY similar to his brother's.

Taulia has thrown 1 pass, was a good not great high school prospect and a portion of people are convinced beyond doubt that he light years better than the current backup

yep. I think Jalen was 12 of 22 for about 120 yards that game and then 2 games later he was 3 of 8 for 21 yards and 0 points in the first half of the national title game before Tua came in the 2nd half to save the day.

Anybody that watched Alabama that season don't have to wonder why Jalen transferred to Oklahoma while Tua sets records at Alabama (ncaa single season pass efficiency among them)

I hope Mac plays well vs Arkansas, but would like to see Taulia get some playing time.

I think Taulia has played in 2 games. He could play in 4 and still save the redshirt.

really? I don't know about that. Tua was very mobile his freshman year. After the 2 injuries last year, I am sure the coaches would rather he throw away the ball rather than much scrambling. I would be surprised if Taulia is more mobile than Tua, but would be cool with that.

Nobody knows. Saban won’t open the playbook to him. Trusting some Mac Jones character
