Did you hear Greg McElroy talking about how the “bagman is real and now they will be taxed”? That was this morning on his satellite radio show. I’m glad he admitted bama is buying all those players...

And LSU isn’t? Only Bama? Lol. It’s happening at every big time program in some form or another.

If those 2 sports are what the free market wants to seek out in terms of Athlete endorsers then so be it
Performance in the free market is purest form of fairness that there is in American society, artificially constricting a free market is un-American, this is what NCAA does yet many seem to be pro NCAA
I have yet to see any Bama fan make a case that the water polo HC get paid $9MM per year like Saban, but you want Athletes in different sports to be treated the same

I like college sports because they are amateur sports. When they become professional sports I'll no longer be a fan. And
If you think college basketball and football are still amateur sport in any way other than by legal definition, you are fooling yourself. They are billion dollar industries.

I was recruited by some smaller d1-d2 schools, the thing is: recruiting is grimy and dirty anyway no matter the division. I ended up not even playing football collegiately because of some issues with my senior year (new coach, scheme overhaul, didn’t fit the new scheme for what I did) but I did walk on for wrestling, and that’s no small feat either. The last thing we need is for people to offer endorsements to make the game even more grimy than it already is.

Amateurism is a concept made up by old men to take advantage of young men. People need to get used to the idea that the whole concept will soon be a relic.

This. It’s like some people live in a fricking communist fairy tale.

At Alabama, LSU, auburn, etc. Those big universities are the exception to the rule, not the norm. There are hundreds of small schools you never hear about and those athletic departments struggle to make ends meet
I don't know why this is so hard for so many folks
The P5 conferences make up 65 Teams, add in BYU, ND, UCF, USF, Houston, SMU,Memphis and maybe a few others
Simply break off that Super Seventy-Five, and come up with real world modern rules that take into account the Billions of dollars that are generated each yr by this Big Boy version of College sports
Artificially constricting the free market for Athletes at these big-75 schools because the lower tier cannot earn big money in the free market is unfair to Athletes at those Super-75 schools
Does anyone restrict Saban's or Dabo's compensation because smaller schools can't afford to keep up?
Heck effin no!
So why restrict the players due to the small Schools not keeping up money wise
Just break off and form an elite division and keep it moving
This ain't rocket science
It seems as if folks are grasping at weak reasons to keep money out of the players pockets at any cost

This is just legalizing a bagmen loophole.
Some questions that also come up. Since they represent the university, does every instance of endorsement or advertising have to be approved by a marketing or compliance department within the university? Would the student have to sign “morality” clauses? Spokesmen and pro atheletes do now(college atheletes might already have to, no idea). Also if they no longer are considered amateur, are they independent contractors with the university? Are they employees?

Players paid for their likeness ? No, it would
open up a Pandora's box of endless problems---not the
least being human nature and the stars raking in the dough
while those unknowns who bust their arse to help make them
stars, are growing ever more resentful.
Providing a training ground and stage for future NFL
players and millions, with room and board and spending money
should be enough.
Otherwise, let the NFL just go ahead and create minor leagues, recruit and pay these guys from the moment they're
out of high school, if that's what they want.

it's funny how many people are good little capitalists until it comes to their sports teams.

The players are already being compensated based on fair market value.
Me thinks you need to read a book on economics.

If you think players are participating in an open market then I don't need to read your economics book.

This is true. The stance of many of these people truly surprise me. I wonder how many of these people’s stance on this issue conflict with their political views? I bet a lot. And I bet a lot don’t even realize it. That’s how stupid some people are. People just like to run their mouth on issues that they have a very limited understanding of because it makes them feel smart. In most instances regarding political issues and similar issues like this the proper response from the mass majority of people should be “I don’t know.” Instead, we get 6 pages of bull shite responses from people who most likely never even attempted to open a ncaa eligibility rule book or have zero clue of what the life of a college athlete looks like. They just flap their lips and write posts that make them feel better about themselves and their understanding of the world. Like I’ve stated earlier, either the NCAA will concede or the courts will decide for them. Neither path will be favorable to them and when it happens a lot of morons here will be shocked. Don’t take my word for it, go read any legal analysis dating back the last 5-10 years regarding issues relating to the NCAA and you will see that the writing is on the wall. Y’all ever see that guy post bull shite day after day on your Facebook newsfeed and you don’t even bother anymore to respond to it? Yea, that’s what reading this thread is like for anyone who has a clue.

think of how many people on this board would rather let fortune 500 companies dump toxic waste into the environment rather than regulate it but also think the NCAA's 5000 pages of regulations on compensation of student athletes constitutes a free market.

You really believe the players aren’t given choice and compensated for their services, don’t you? Wow.
Posted on 10/2/19 at 12:04 am to Goldtide1
You weren’t really a NCAA athlete. You’re just a pretender.
