In the past, I've referred to him as a Bayou Caveman and the second coming of Curly Hallman. I have to admit that I was wrong. He's become more of a Cajun Dabo Swinney than a caveman. I'm also impressed by his search for tactical innovation and his Humility.
I bet USC is punching themselves in the balls for not keeping him. I bet he would be surfing in Santa Monica or MAlibu, signing 5 star recruits, developing a charming california accent, and dominating the Pac 12 if the Trojans had done the right thing and not the stupid USC thing they've done the past decade. Anyway, good for Coach O.
Coach O is a good redemption story. With that said, Frick LSU. I hate your entire fanbase and your state.

You are much healthier than a few posters over on the Rant who still can't admit that they might have been wrong.

They didn’t only “ not keep him “ , their effete West Coast administration made sure to let it be known privately and publicly that even the thought of such an uncouth man running their program was a gauche impossibility . Coach O , had he been hired, would have wrapped up SoCal recruiting, hired an excellent staff and had them in the top five. He was the PERFECT man to solve the particular problem they had, but they wanted white collar instead of blue collar.

How can anyone not like Ed Orgeron?

YAW YAW, crazy like a fox

USC has made much bigger mistakes than letting O go. He doesn't fit in there at all, and that does make a difference.
He is the perfect fit at LSU culturally, is proving to actually be a good coach, and more importantly, recognizes his faults and allows experts to make changes in order to win. And of course hes always been a great motivator/recruiter. We'll see if he can keep the train rolling.

I think we need to pump the breaks a bit on the win at Texas.
How many times are we told in August and September that Texas is "back"?... only to watch them fall apart in October and November.
Coach O has certainly done a great job up to this point. He's got LSU in a good spot, but how do we know this Texas team is even truly a Top 20 team right now. LSU could still very easily lose 3 or 4 games, and if that were to happen, would this praise for Orgeron still persist? I think not.
Let's wait and see how LSU does in the SEC before we anoint him coach of the year.

Agreed. You can definitely tell he learned from his failures at Ole Miss and has developed into a pretty good coach. Not ready to say he is great yet but he definitely is on the right track.

I think him not getting the job there is one of the reasons he grew as a coach. So while I do think you're right, I don't think he would have been as good as he is now without that disappointment.

Totally agree with you, there couldn’t be a more perfect fit for LSU than Orgeron.
People seem to get the idea that if a coach fails at a place like Ole Miss (which is a very hard school to win at), that they aren’t capable of evolving, recognizing and learning from their shortcomings and improving on them.
It’s a really stupid thing to think when you have a coach like O that is humble. Humility is one of the greatest strengths a HC can have, knowing when things aren’t working and making the effort to change (i.e. offensive philosophy). Had Les not been so stubborn and proud, LSU might well have won another national title or 2 and he would still be there today.

Idk if O could've had the same success at USC that he's having at LSU. O is the perfect fit at LSU.

He is perfect for LSU.

Long season ahead. Texas could end up being poo. No one really knows...
If he goes 10-3 again then I'd agree that he's better than most expected but still never going to win a title.
If he goes 11-1 or 12-0 and wins the West/makes the playoffs then I'd say we all were wrong.

he's always been a great recruiter. that's really all he has to do. he lets his coaches coach. if miles would have done the same, he'd still be here.
both don't seem to be the best x's and o's men.

A lot of coaches simply don't have this. You can tell Coach O isn't trying to do it all himself else it would be a disaster just like it would be for anyone else who did things like that.

Saturday night was the rare game where both teams were a lot better than I expected.
LSU is a legit contender and Texas is a damn good squad with impressive athletes. Both QBs were awesome
