So, according Finebaum, Fulmer's final 3 were Mel Tucker, Kevin Steele, or Pruitt?

They should've gone out and gotten Mike Leach.

The fact that Leach was not even considered is all you need to know.

Leach is a major headcase......doesn’t even have a drivers license and maybe he wasnt interested in that major dumpster fire, Fatlock will fire Pruitt and take over and Tennessee will continue to get what they deserve.

Two coordinators with no head coaching experience and a guy who had a 9-36 record in his only head coaching job at Baylor. Seems like ol' Phil wanted to hire a puppet that he can control.

Kevin Steele has no business being a HC

Agree. He needs to retire at Auburn.

Fullmer didn't have a final 3.

I remember Steele being a dark horse candidate amongst some of my Nole friends when Bowden retired. Us Gators could have been so lucky.

Fulmer pushed Tee Martin onto the staff so Martin could take over if Pruitt crashed and burned.

There were a lot of reports that somebody from UT had Leach lined up but Fulmer nixed the deal.

Why in the hell do y’all act like Leak will be a success in the SEC? His offense worked at Texas Tech & Wazzu because they both play in a finesse conference.
That air raid shite won’t work in the SEC, and you’ll never win a national title with it.

so did Finebaum have a clue why Fulmer was so stupid as to kill the deal with Leach?

Leach would beat UK/Mizzou/SC/Vandy most seasons, and win enough OOC games to have them bowl eligible every year. That's realistically all they can hope for from now on.

Leach used it at Kentucky as OC with Hal Mumme. Bob Stoops, while DC at Florida, had trouble with it. It is the primary reason he hired Leach as his first OC at Oklahoma in 1999.
That is where the offense really took off. Oklahoma won the national title in 2000, and everyone started employing aspects of that offense in the Big 12 and beyond. Suffice to say, it could work in the SEC if you place emphasis on the power running part of it and still have great athletes on defense. It just seems so many Big 12 programs only play lip service to having a physical running game and defense.

Matthew Scoggins, General Counsel for the Tennessee: “Sorry I’ve been in meeting and still am. We are going to take a couple of days and regroup on our search. It has nothing to do with Coach Leach. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.” Matt O’Hagan, Leach’s agent: “Thanks Matt, the people we worked with the past two days who are associated with the Vols search were professional and thorough. We negotiated earnestly and in good faith and feel we had reached and agreed to a deal. We hope that UT sees the tremendous value in having Mike Leach as their football coach. He is disciplined and innovate, attributes which has led to great success on the field and in the classroom.”
