How different do you think Alabama’s national championship history would be if the four team playoff format had been implemented in let’s say... 1970, the beginning of Bryant’s best decade?
Any particular years you think championships might have been won or lost?

We would have won all the ones we got screwed out of and still won all the ones we already won.
57 national titles IMHO

Win it twice a few times?

In that scenario I think we get the three peat in 77, 78, 79. We got screwed in 77 when Joe Montana beat Texas after Earl Campbell went down injured. I think we would have whipped Notre Dames arse and the matchup with Texas would have been epic. However, under the 4 team playoffs scenario, ND would have been left out at #5. The top 4 were #1 Texas, #2 Oklahoma #3 Alabama and #4 Michigan

2012 may have turned out differently. UGa was clearly team 1B that year and if they would have gotten into the playoff after the SEC championship game loss it would have been hard to beat them twice.

Honestly, this made me LOL. Like literally.

I reckon we get in in 2008 and 2013 and would have a good shot at winning it all in the latter. Avenging the kick-6 a month later would be borderline erotic for me
Where were we ranked after we wrecked Florida in 1999?

Don't think Georgia gets in the playoffs in 12 with 2 losses, especially with a 28 point loss to SC on their resume.
64 team probably doesn't win the NC, they lost to Texas in the bowl. 66 team would have had a shot at it.
Bama probably wouldn't have won the NC in the early 70s, they lost to ND in the bowl that year.
Not sure about 92, especially if they had to play FSU, before Miami.
Bama likely wins the 13 National Title.
Don't think the 08 team beats OU or Florida in the playoffs.
94 team makes the playoffs, but no chance at beating Nebraska.

Bowden's prime FSU teams usually peaked in the latter part of the season. Beating them and Miami B2B would have been a tall order.
Bama was sky high against Miami in '92 being a hungry underdog with a month long emotional / strategic build up playing in a stadium in SEC country. Wedge FSU in there somewhere and it would have tough enough just to have won that game much less carry the same energy into the Miami game that we saw in the Superdome.
I think beating Florida twice in '09 would have been tough for some of the same reasons. Alabama was waiting on that game for a year, was emotionally high, and played near perfect.
Alabama's usually come through when it's had the legitimate best team in the country, so I can't think of many seasons since I was old enough to follow closely (born in '78) that Alabama didn't win the national title when it should have.

I think we were better than OSU in 2014 and Clemson in 2016 and should have won both of those games.

This is why I liked the BCS. It paired the SEC champion (usually us) against the 2nd best team in the country. It got straight to the meat of the meal instead of this warmup game against an out-of-place politically-ranked #3 team bullshite

The most likely addition would have been '77. They were very very powerful by years end. I doubt Texas or ND could have handled them.

This ones a little harder to defend, but 73 might have been one. Bama was extremely tight going into the ND Sugar Bowl. We basically forfeited the first quarter, then proceeded to out gain ND by almost 200 yards in the final three quarters. It took a returned kick and the only missed PAT of the year by Gant to lose that one.
This was a very great Bama squad. Give them a warm up semi and I think they roll. Those Bryant teams in the early 70's were very uptight in Bowls. The spolight was so bright on that "Game of the Century" that they we choking all over themselves coming out of the locker room.

BCS rankings had Alabama #4 after winning the SEC title. Likely in. Only Kansas State at 10-1 had an argument. Everyone else was a 2 loss team.

Bryant's 70's teams would have won at least 5 or 6 in play offs
73-rematch with ND or playing OU they win
74-same ND bug,
75-best team in the land after that goofy 1st game loss to Missouri. the D never game up more than 10pts after that 1st game
77- best team at the end of the year
78- at the end of the year, playing as good as anyone
79-
even, 1980--this team was crazy good , other than turnovers by the two QB's all season, that D would have bottled up Walker(uga) if they had played. They were so fast. I think they would string him out and just run him outta bounds most of his carries.

In 1941, our National Championship Team may not have made The College Football Playoff even if they extended it to 20 teams lol

Why they year claimed while another more legitimate year wasn’t I don’t know. That’s the first year people bring up when trying to talk about Alabama’s too many claimed titles.
