A Doctor on 1010 Jacksonville Fl. Very Critical of Bama Medical Staff

Dr. Kevin Murphy of SE Orthapedics Specialists expressed disgust at operating on a high ankle sprain in order to make a player available this quickly. He said it was atypical treatment and irresponsible of the medical staff. He stated that while the procedure improved stability, thereby allowing the player to perform, the player is in no way healed and is highly vulnerable to reinjury and permanent damage. He indicated that recovery from this injury is a matter of months and not weeks if proper medical protocol is followed.
So he basically accused our medical staff of malpractice on radio. Someone might want to relay this information.

Not a doctor, but I'd always assume there are different ways to treat different conditions with virtually any ailment or injury.
Some are more passive, some are more aggressive.
A case could probably be made for either route to take.

Everything I've read about the procedure says the opposite.

Why should I? The interview just happened in front of a fairly large listening audience. I relayed accurately what this guy said.
If this guy is not up to date on cutting edge treatments for this condition, he shouldn't be making these public accusations. Perhaps our medical staff should be aware of this.

Seems like they probably could learn a thing or two from the doctors that actually practice on high-level athletes. Dr. Murphy probably spends most of his time working on grandmas that get hurt playing Pickleball.

Maybe the guy is correct, but I haven't read or heard about this from any other specialist. Maybe this guy's primary intent was 15 minutes of relatively little fame. We're talking about him now.

It’s past time for mods to give you a temporary timeout. You’re not even a good troll.

So reporting a legitimate news story is now trolling.
I don't get some of you people.

You don’t trust Dr. Andrews? One of the most respected ortho surgeons in the world?

I didn't say I don't trust him. I said another Doctor appeared on a public radio show and trashed Tua' s treatment plan. How is that the equivalent of saying I don't trust Andrews?

I would say this. James Andrews is a highly respected individual and among the best in the world in his field. I doubt he would risk that reputation by doing something unethical or something not in the patient's best interests.
This is why you get second and even third opinions sometimes. The JVille MD has one opinion. Andrews another. Given Andrews rep and if it were my ankle I'd likely go with Andrews.

I don't think the comments were appropriate to make in public. I'm not a lawyer so I don't know if this amounts to defamation.

Friend of mine works in an orthopedic office as a nurse practitioner. She said the procedure is abnormal, and most orthopedists wouldn't recommend it to everyday patients. But college athletes have access to some of the best trainers, training facilities, and intense physical therapy programs, all which greatly reduce the risks involved.
For whatever that is worth.

Sounds like butt hurt to me. Dr. Andrews is the best orthopedic surgeon around. I trust his opinion and diagnosis, not some idiotic DJ interviewing a quack on the radio. Just ask the hundreds and hundreds of athletes that go to him a year for diagnosis.
