In 2009, Florida was riding into the SEC Championship Game as a 5-point favorite against Alabama. They were the defending National Champions and had won two of the previous three National Titles.

Just one year earlier, they had played Alabama in Atlanta and won a very close game to move towards the National Title.

Most everyone thought this 2009 Florida team was the heavy favorite to win the National Title..... only it didn't play out that way.

The similarities of that game and this year's game are quite numerous. Only this time Alabama is the favorite who has won 2 of the last 3 National Titles, and Georgia is the underdog... This time, it is Georgia who was narrowly defeated in Atlanta in a Championship setting the year before who is out for revenge.

My gut tells me Alabama wins on Saturday. But if Georgia does pull the upset, look for it to be the official changing of the guard that is well overdue.

Ole Miss beat us two years in a row. It wasn't a changing of the guard.

I think this is 2008 and next year could be 2009.

With that said, we ain't late stage Urban Meyer Florida. And 2010 Florida was a clear rebuild. 2019 Alabama might be better than 2018 Alabama.

The difference is that Florida lost Tebow after 09 and he was basically their team.

They built a very weird roster around him being almost their only power running option.

That’s completely ridiculous. Bama has lost games before and yet here they are and they’ll be there next year as well. Any team can lose but a loss doesn’t derail one of the best programs in college football history.

Florida was a 5 point favorite. Alabama is a 14 point favorite.

That's a YUGE difference.

There is a changing of the guard coming, but it won't be happening until Saban retires. Who knows who will fill that void.

Sure, one win means the Saban dynasty is over. I'm also looking forward to us winning the SEC in football next year

Georgia isn't beating Bama Saturday, but if by some chance they do, get ready for it bc Bama is gonna smoke your asses in the CFP.

Sorry, pup, but there won't be a changing of the guards while Saban is at Bama.

Georgia didn't lose to Ole Miss. Y'all aren't ready for a national title.

You could kinda tell that florida team wasn't as good in 09 and you could tell alabama was a lot better. Bama is a different animal this year. We as college football fans got robbed not getting to see that 2008 usc VS 2008 Florida national championship game.

The following season after that was urban's last and he left the program in disarray, and had a pretty damn mediocre year in 2010 as well. Saban is going ot be at bama at least a few more years and whenever he does will leave behind one of the most loaded and deep rosters in CFB.

When UF lost that 09 SECCG they were pretty much finished on the national scene all the way up to present day. We could beat bama by 30 and they would still be the favorites to win it all going into next year. So no I wouldn't say they're all that similar.
