Dak NEVER beat Ole Miss as a starting QB. Dak did manage to shite himself on national television during the EggBowl, so he's got that going for him.........

Jared Lorenzen > Archie Manning

Yeah, we shouldn't be comparing Archie to Dak.
Archie was closer Chris Relf.

Archie was a baller and more athletic than his sons. Johnny Manziel 40 years earlier

I grew up in the Delta where a lot of older people knew Archie and remembered him from Drew. They all said he was a better baseball player, but he loved football

Dak wouldn't have made the pro bowl playing for those Saints teams.

Jeeeeezus....
Archie is a legend and should be.
What he did at Ole Miss and with the Saints, with the teams he played on is unreal.
Ask former coaches and players what they thought of him.
Too many young punks on this board that don’t know shite.
JMO
Thanks

Maybe QB. Not player.
what Miss State player was better than Archie Manning in college?
Archie Manning was SEC POY in 1969, a 2x AA, Walter Camp Award Winner in 1969, and Heisman finalist in 1969. At the time he graduated, he was the SEC's all-time leader in total yards.
It was a different game back then. So if you're trying to compare stats from today to back then, then you're going down an ignorant road.

Good enough short stop to get drafted 4 times.

Listen to this man. An LSU fan. He knows what's up.
People today that try to compare stats to past players are ridiculous. It was a completely different game and what he was able to accomplish in that era of football was astounding.
I mean, if you really want to compare his stats from then to players now the best one to look at is his single game yardage record that stood for 40 years and had to be broken by yet another freak QB. He was performing Manziel-like feats in an era where defenses were still basically allowed to kill you if you had the ball.

100 year anniversary of college football.
Many teams including Ole Miss had the 100 logo on their helmets.
Johnny Vaught vs. Frank Broyles
27-22
Arkansas was AP #3 (9-1)
Ole Miss was AP #13. (7-3)

I enjoyed in the Manning documentary when they went on and on about Archie playing with a broken arm in the Gator Bowl and how awesome he was, then just moved on without mentioning the final score of the game.
According to the documentary his and Eli's biggest accomplishment was beating Bama

I am a State alum and fan who was a youngster when Archie was at OM. So please let me correct some distorted information here:
Fact:
1. lots of State fans/alums were Archie fans despite the fact that he was at Ole Miss.
Archie’s Family were actually State fans but OM was a much better FB program in the late 60’s so it made sense for him to go there.
2. Archie may have never been a starter much less a star except for an unfortunate injury to a fellow signee. In the 1967 MS High School All-Star Football game (they were held in the summer in those days), Meridian High QB Bob White suffered a career ending knee injury. Why was that significant? Coach Johnny Vaught had signed White as his future starting QB. White’s injury opened the door for Manning who may have never sniffed the field otherwise.
3. Archie was far more than just stats. He was a tremendous player who had a magnetism that just exuded confidence. The team around him was not very good but he made them better by just his presence on the field.
4. He was named the SEC all-quarter century QB (1950-1975).
5. Certainly not over hyped at all. The Bama game was great as was the famous Archie Who game when #1 Tennessee went limping home after being skull dragged 38-0.
I guess they may have know his last name after that game. In this case, there is way more to him than just W-L records and stats etc.
Plus throw in the fact that he is a great ambassador for MS in general, SEC and NFL football and he is justifiably given a place of honor in the circles of football.

anyone knocking Archie's Ole Miss tenure is crazy. They were as good as any team in the country at the end of the 1969 season and had he not broken his arm midway in his SR year he very well would have won the Heisman.
Don't get too wrapped up in his stats. Its odd you mention Bryant as Archie was 2-1 vs Coach Bryant, the one loss that epic 33-32 game. Coach Bryant would tell you you were nuts, too.
Archie was a great player and remains a class act and ambassador to the SEC and college football in general.
