52% passer 31 TDs/40 interceptions

Different era back then...the rules were not nearly so pass friendly as they are now...there was no 5-yard cushion...the DBs could whack on the WRs all the way downfield till the ball was in the air...and the QB wasn't protected by the rules as much either. Not to mention, the offenses were much more run oriented back in that day...weren't that many dink and dunk passes and WR screens to bolster completion percentages...most of the passes were 10+ yards downfield...

Same way in the NFL...you'll see a lot of QBs in the Hall of Fame that had more career INTs than TDs, with most having career completion percentages well under 60% and even a few under 50%...

As a kid, I remember watching Manning on TV in the '69 game against Bama...he was the Ole Miss team and he was the best player on the field...

Yeah, we shouldn't be comparing Archie to Dak. Archie was closer Chris Relf.

Wayne Madkin had more wins and more yards than Archie.

Only a Miss State fan would be this jealous of Archie Manning.

Looking at the stats, it's easy to say he was garbage but you talk to any fan who watched football in that era and he's always one of the best players they've ever seen.

I'm one of those that saw him play and I'm not a OM fan and he was as good as any I saw during that era.

Lame thread.

Of course he'd say that. His defense gave up 32 points.

It's easy to tell the people in this thread who actually saw Archie play.

Only Ole Miss would retire his Jersey and have the speed limit as his #18.

Best SEC finish was 4th.
His best game still lost to the worst Alabama team under Bryant.

Say he was at Alabama with his record he would have been Bryant's worst or 2nd worst qb.

Dude was basically John Elway before John Elway coming out of Ole Miss, had all the tangibles and intangibles good leader for an otherwise sucky Ole Miss team surrounding him

He finished 4th in 69 and 3rd in 70 for the Heisman. If he doesn’t break his arm he easily wins it in 70. STFU you stupid neck.

Jeeeeezus....
Archie is a legend and should be.
What he did at Ole Miss and with the Saints, with the teams he played on is unreal.
Ask former coaches and players what they thought of him.

Too many young punks on this board that don’t know shite.

JMO
Thanks

Hear! Hear! Switch him out with Fran Tarkenton and he wins multiple championships for the Vikings' with all of their offensive weapons along with that amazing defense.

Or Terry Bradshaw with these Steelers.

All these young kids trashing Archie because of his stats: Go back and do some homework and see how many years it took Terry Bradshaw to have his first 300 yard passing game.

edit: heck, I'll do it for you. Super Bowl XIII in his 9th year...319 yards vs. the Cowboys.

Before that, he even had seasons without a 200 yard game.

I went back and just looked at one random week from last season.

Week 7: Six NFL QBs had 300 yard games, and one had a 400 yard game.

Dak wasn’t even the best QB in the state of MS when he was in college

If Dak had played behind Archie's OL, his career might already be over.

Except the OP is a Bama fan.

I’m only old enough to remember going to see him play for the Saints and can remember some amazing plays he could pull out of his arse. After his playing time, I know about every Saints fan would turn down the TV if they were on and listen to the WWL broadcast bc of him.

A lot of State fans just like to rag ole miss fans just because.

I am a State fan that is old enough to remember seeing Archie play. I am telling you all that while State fans hated Ole Miss, everybody was a Archie fan.

Similar to Ole Miss fans and Dak. They still hated State (rightfully so) but many were Dak fans.

Same with State fans and Dexter McCluster. Still hated Ole Miss but liked the player as he was fun to watch.

Lots of State fans were Archie Who fans after he obliterated #1 Tennessee in 1969.

Peyton never won a game vs UF...we hung 62 on his arse. I don't he won a SEC title either, fricking Tee Martin did though in 1998 and Tee couldn't hit the broadside of abarn at 10 paces.
