ATLANTA -- The first question Nick Saban was asked at SEC Media Days on Wednesday was about the remaining length of his coaching career and if he will coach at, and beyond, 70.
It’s a question the 12th-year Alabama head coach fields a lot these days, whether it’s at media events like the annual circus that is SEC Media Days or in discussions with recruits. But when asked if he expects to join former Florida and South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier as the only SEC coaches to lead a program at age 70, Saban provided a familiar response.
“Miss Terry does not want me at home, I can tell you that,” Saban said at the College Football Hall of Fame. “She doesn’t care if I’m 60, 70 or 80. So, she’s looking for something for me to do.

quote:

“Now, I really enjoy what I’m doing right now, and as long as I’m healthy and I can do it, I’m going to continue to do it and not worry about any numbers or what my age is or anything like that. But I would not want to be in the position where I ever rode the program down because I wasn’t capable of making a contribution that would be positive to the success of the program.”

quote:

...none of his current players have noticed their head coach aging.

“He’s getting younger to me,” linebacker Anfernee Jennings said. “I don’t see any signs of that.”

And you people thought it was unfair that our players take deer antler spray...

Jimbo's ex-wife used to say the same exact thing.

One day I'm going to get a little alert on my phone saying "Nick Saban announces retirement from football". I don't know where I'll be but I can tell you at least a part of me will cry tears of joy.

I bet he keeps the old bat right there in his office all day and they cripple around looking for moonpies until it gets late at around 7:30 and then they get up at 4 to do it all over again.

I heard him say that, and I really hope he means it.

This is good news for the SEC West, as it will remain the premiere division in CFB. Right?

This is not what Aggie wants to hear. Jimbo's clock is running.

He does look great for someone in that profession and at his age. Matt Luke looks as old as he does.

One thing I noticed was a more relaxed Saban as he sat down with the SEC network crew. He is the happiest Ive ever seen him.
I think he knows this may be his most dynamic offense he's had at Bama. The 12-13 editions were maybe more effecient but this one will have big play potential all day long. Hell, our 3rd string RB was our leading rusher in the CFP national title game and he was a freshman, Tua, a freshman, The receiver, Devontae Smith, freshman. We have a RB who is looking to go over 1000 yards for 3 straight years but all people here want to talk about is Najee Harris.

I see why he's smiling.

That widowmaker his Dad had so young has to be on his mind. I’m not saying like worrying him, I mean like making his mark while he can. You get that from guys who had Dad’s who died young. I’ve always thought that horrible tragedy loomed large for him, gave him a sense of urgency.

Some people just aren’t built to retire. No chance he’s done until he just physically can’t.

He's using the South Park Christopher Reeve method...eating the stem cells from live fetuses.

These are the pinpricks before the cannons of retirement.

This is a fluff piece, and no player is going to say "Idk he seems pretty old to me".

If he has developed some sort of Benjamin Button disease... how great would that be? At least another 25-30 years.

The real question is how many more years Emmert has got. If he is replaced with someone respectable then Saban will jump ship.

I really wonder how Saban won titles in 2003 and 2009 without Mark Emmert heading the NCAA.

2003 was at LSU and 2009 Bama was on probation for cheating and had Ingram and Julio who they were busted for buying.

Dude dont respond to him. That’s his stick he either does it to troll and get responses or he is really that are up with Bama that you should feel sorry for him. It’s honestky sad and if you stick around long enough you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about.
