Is Dan Mullen really a top tier coach in the SEC?

During his time at Mississippi St he finished with 69 total wins. Which was 9th in the conference. That's not terrible. But let's dive a little deeper into who he was beating.
37 of those wins were against either FCS opponents or teams that finished with 5 wins or less.
On the flip side, he only has 3 wins over teams that finished the season with 10 wins or more. And that was against the following teams: Rice, Bowling Green, and Middle Tennessee. Only Kentucky and Vanderbilt have fewer in the SEC.
He does have 7 wins over ranked teams. Which is the same amount as Tennessee, but again, there are only two teams in the SEC with less during that span; Kentucky and Vanderbilt.
If we break it down even further, he only has 3 wins over teams that FINISHED the season ranked in the AP Top 25 (once again, Vanderbilt and Kentucky are the only teams with less). 9 of the 14 SEC schools have 11 or more since 2009.
Did Florida just buy $6,000,000 worth of snake oil per year for the next 6 years?

I made this argument to State last year. The we’re angry AF. I have a feeling their tunes have changed.

Again, lateral move for Mullen, upgrade for MSU with Joe Mo

Miss State to Florida, a lateral move?

They really think this. For real. Real life.

I'd like every poster to go on record about how terrible a coach Merlen is, so we can start calling for some HCs to get canned next year.
No one should be judged on their coaching prowise by a stint at a school in Mississippi. Jury is still out IMO, but he was a hell of an OC.

He lost to a Matt Luke coached very down Rebel squad in 2017.

He’s average, a below average recruiter and probably a little above average at x’s and o’s. Probably good enough for 8-10 wins a year but I doubt we win a championship. It’s frustrating but it is what it is.

Yea not a Mullen fan, but he was what State fans consider successful there. Even if he doesn't get Florida back to dominant, he should still make them a major player again

Name another coach that MSU could hire that would do better. MSU has many obstacles to overcome to win. Mullen overcame many of them.

We will know one way or another in 3 years.
If you can’t win at UF it’s you, not them.

I think he is a good offensive minded coach who gets the most out of his players. Some of his decision making can be questionable at times but he did well at MSU given its MSU. He definitely understands how to develop QB's. Its not like he worked with hs all Americans at QB every year.
His recruiting definitely is a major question mark. I am sure he will do fine at Florida but if he wants to reach that next level he needs to recruit at a much higher level.
He is now at Florida, this is his chance to do it. No excuses, he is at a school that should attract best of the best talent. Florida itself is loaded every year. If he can't make it work here than its him
