Dan did an outstanding job at Miss State. Any coach that could actually get the Dawgs ranked #1 in this day and time is a goodun. I expect he will do really well at GatorVille. I will assume he will go with his same MO of big and strong teams with the running (pass well) QB scheme. No doubt he will have a lot more talent available to him in Florida. We'll see.

Buy Florida stock is my recommendation.

Mullen is a good coach, but as the OP's stats show, he is over-rated. UF is grossly overpaying for him. I think he will recruit well enough to start averaging 10 wins a season, but he will have to improve his gameday coaching to do any better than that.

Moorhead hit the nail on the head in his alumni talking points, which he repeated on Finebaum. MSU needs to improve its record in the conference, and that's where Mullen was coming up short. Mullen had one winning season in the SEC. Sherrill had 3 seasons of 5 or more SEC wins in his first 9 seasons.

He fed off an easy ooc schedule every year. It was an embarrassing schedule. Rarely do I remember them scheduling a power 5 school.

Most of his wins are the 4 cupcakes scheduled yearly. Florida gonna wish they went a different direction.

Reading those facts says a lot. I knew about the easy schedule but damn just 3 wins over teams that finished ranked?

I don't know who your team is because you are too much of a coward to show it but I do know you've had an obsession about Mullen for far too long. That could be pretty telling right there. I mean you actually spent a lot of time and research just to post again about Mullen. Your life must be dull.

A trained monkey could coach better than Dan Mullen.

To his credit, he judges player ability, on how they perform at camp, not on stars. This is where the "Mullen's Diamonds" saying came from.

Wait what? I've never heard that saying. Dude better learn to suck up to these recruits because he's at Florida now and these recruits will be courted by the big dogs. No more of a 3 star roster and 4 ooc cupcakes anymore.

Mullen is a -show me what you can do- evaluator of talent. 3 stars often out perform higher ranked kids in these camps. I've been to several and seen it.

It doesn’t seem he’s going to part ways with Hevesy, Knox, or Gonzales. He already allowed our best recruiter to leave in Sieder because he wouldn’t let him coach running backs. We probably shouldn’t get our hopes up that anyone is going to get fired, besides maybe Scott who seems like a terrible hire too. He has no ties so maybe we can upgrade there. I’m trying to stay optimistic but this Recruiting cycle makes it hard. We are getting ran over there is no way around it.

It took me about 8 to 10 minutes to run through some pivot tables after the idea popped into my head about how successful Mullen was at Mississippi St. 6 to 8 minutes to type out my findings. 2 minutes to do a quick edit. Altogether, about 17-20 minutes were spent on this while I enjoyed a lunchtime coffee.

It’s numbers brother. No need to be sensitive about it. If you have any numbers you’d like to present as a rebuttal to mine, you’re welcome to give it a shot.

Edit: also, I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’ve ever posted about Mullen. I could be wrong. You’d know better than me I guess.

Where MSU ranks in regards to different categories:

Education: Dead Last.

Source.

Prestige: 1 Conference Championship (1941), 1 Division Championship (1998). So basically they were only half relevant 10 years before Mullen arrived and only ever won a conference while Hitler was in power.

Teams that have won their conference since MSU last won it:

Florida
Georgia
Tennessee
Alabama
LSU
Auburn
Arkansas
Ole Miss
fricking Kentucky
South Carolina
Texas A&M
Mizzou

You beat Vanderbilt, though.

Facilities: 9th overall in the SEC, 6th in the West with only A&M behind them (although that I highly doubt.)

Source.

Location: Just going to go ahead and say the worst or very close to being the worst.

So basically he's at the school with arguably the least resources across the board facing LSU (went to the NCG multiple times during his tenure), Alabama (same) and Auburn (same).

He was basically coaching with one hand behind his back, and now MSU fans come out of the woodwork crowing about how good their team will be this year that was built by Mullen (who apparently sucks).

He made MSU relevant during the most dominant stretch of any division from one conference and did it at the worst place to coach in said division.

Judging Mullen at MSU is like judging Meyer at Bowling Green.

Mullen gets a gold star for QB development, but what are his other strengths? He had two chances to beat Alabama, but instead of finding a way to win, he played not to lose and lost both games. If he takes that approach at UF, he'll be coaching in the OVC in a few years.
