No. He rigged the system at State making sure he had 4 auto OOC wins every year, then gained a reputation as a program builder by getting State to bowl games by only having 2 win two SEC games.

Mullen is a fraud.

He should fit in better than Muschamp. If he can recruit well against UM and FSU he may do well.

The problem with that is Taggert and Richt are excellent recruiters, and FSU and UM both have recruiting headspace in Florida.

He might make it work (hire crackerjack recruiters for his staff), but the teams Florida considers its real rivals: FSU, LSU, Alabama, Georgia all have superb recruiting staffs (LSU ought to have an asterisk, but eventually someone will replace "Big O").

Who knows maybe he does have a coaching edge against some of those teams, but definitely not against Alabama (and probably Georgia - Kirby has the smarts, but I dunno still about him making it hit the road).

So we'll see. His offense is hard to stop if he has the right kind of qb though.

Did Florida just buy $6,000,000 worth of snake oil per year for the next 6 years?

Yes. And we gave him $12M guaranteed in his buyout

Mullen did a good job while at state, we won some big games and we were competitive. Florida fans be prepared for extremely frustrating play calling in critical situations and underwhelming recruiting.

If we're sitting here in February and he hasn't signed a top 10 class or something very close to it there will be a lot of disappointed Gator fans. A lot of highly rated guys looking at UF, if he can't close enough to get us to at somewhere around the top 10, it will be a cause for concern.

And how did that Auburn team finish? Sure you want to claim that as your biggest win?

Again, lateral move for Mullen, upgrade for MSU with Joe Mo

If going from State to UF was a lateral move then UF wouldn’t being taking States people at will . State is more like UFs minor league then equal.

I am not sold on Mullen being a great head coach but it’s possible. He did good at State for the talent level he had to work with . UFs offense has went down hill since he left . He has coached some of the best QBs in college football over the last 10-15 years . He will have to improve on recruiting drastically and be able to handle the pressure at UF.

Except he won just 2 SEC games in only one season at State.

MSU fans' answer to OP's question is quite different now vs about 8 months ago.

Yup if so, hopefully it’s more 7 than 9 so we can move on quickly, he’s not going to win championships here, in my opinion. He doesn’t recruit well enough.

He lost to a Matt Luke coached very down Rebel squad in 2017.

If you think for one second that Dan Mullen gave a shite about that game then you are an idiot. He had already long checked out of the Moo U Hotel.

Those couple weeks they were ranked in the CFP poll 4 years ago really inflated their ego. They've completely lost all sense of reality and forgotten who and what they are. They legitimately think they are national title contenders this year

Something about a maroon and white color combination makes a fanbase see greatness out of a history of abstract failure. For some reason, two teams come to mind...
