Interesting article on how quickly and committed Liberty University, the FCS school that beat Baylor last week, is to be competitive in sports. Since 2010 they have spent $196 million on athletic facilities and plan to spend another $40 to $50 million expanding their stadium. They reportedly offered Conference USA $24 million, instead of the required $2 million, to join. Conference USA reportedly rejected them because it is a conservative Christian college. They have also managed to schedule future home games with Virginia Tech, Virginia, Syracuse, Duke, Wake Forest, Brigham Young and Army.

Good to see Jerry Falwell U live up to the principles of their founder. For them "Christian Charity begins [and stays] at home."

Liberty spending SEC type money while Vandy is spending like a Big South school. Sheesh

And they've been the main sponsor of William Byron's racecar and are spending big money to follow him to NASCAR next year as he's one of the most talented young drivers out there joining one of the best teams.
They're getting their name out there that's for sure.

Liberty's biggest sports rival in the Big South was Coastal Carolina, who are now playing FBS football in the Sun Belt. Coastal leaving the Big South for greener pastures seems to have really motivated Liberty, as the Big South is one of the weaker FCS conferences.

We should swap them with Aggy.

Liberty is such a weird place.

Slightly surprised that CUSA rejected them.
They took a chance on some sketchy teams before solely due to TV markets. They helped fast track South Florida's ascension to FBS at a time when they had just started playing ball.

Liberty is a school where people that BYU students would call prudes attend. I'm pretty sure that they have a morality squad that actually drives around off campus to look for Liberty parking passes at places where fun happens and then they discipline those students even if they weren't doing anything.
When I say places where fun happens, that includes Chili's because they serve alcohol there.
Chili's is too racy for Liberty. Let that sink in.
